Google's latest venture into Tennessee

United States
December 21, 2015 9:03am CST
Google has announced plans to hopefully buy property in Clarksville, Tennessee and they will invest Five Hundred Million Dollars into this investment. Good for Tennessee! Google will also put 70 people to work full time in this new data center. The land deal should be approved today and the new site will provide data storage for Google Cloud users. If approved don't expect the data center to be up and running for at least two to three years.

All that money involved and creating only 70 full time jobs? Do they get subsidies from the government? I wouldn't be a bit surprised.

Since it's 'storage' you don't need a lot of employees.

It does seem like a lot of money for so few jobs. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if they do get a tax break.@marlinea

@Marcyaz Most businesses coming in to our state get tax breaks.

I guess 70 is the total, that's all they said...It doesn't take many to 'watch' the stuff.

Two to three years is an understandable period because would be a vast undertaking.

This is a vast project, I understand the two to three years period. Even if for the moment they only need to hire 70 people, it's a start.

And a lot more work in the interim for construction personnel: builders, electricians...

Exactly - it's the residual stuff that adds up for the state.

@AbbyGreenhill that is good. It should increase the economy in that area. It's just too bad that it will take so long to get it going.

Approval of plans up to a year and two years to build. It will also attract other big name's to the area.

Only 70 jobs, boy you would think they could do better than that.

It's a data storage facility - no need for hundreds of employees.
