Do you participate in re-gifting?

Re-gifting - taking a gift you received and giving it to someone else. I know I've done it, I just did it recently. A few years ago someone gave me two really cute Christmas dish towels....snowmen but in a country-ish motif. They were cute, but not for me. I wanted to give someone a small token and I did buy her something and then threw the dish towel since I knew she would appreciate it, and she did! That's re-gifting. The only way anyone would know if a gift you give them is being re-gifted would be if you left a tag or a card from the original 'giver'. That would be pretty dumb on your part! No harm no foul I say. If re-gifting means keeping things out of the landfill or off the yard sale table, why not! Would you re-gift? Would you be insulted if you received a re-gifted item? gotta be careful to not give it back, but I have, and still do this! did this this year, as I got 2 of something, and rather than try and return it, I just gave the duplicate away

I've re-gifted but only when I know the person getting the re-gift would like it.

That makes sense, why regift to someone who might also regift it.

This is something that I have never even considered, but I have to admit it far better than having an item go to waste.

Just make sure if it's food, it's not leftover's from last Christmas!

@AbbyGreenhill What is wrong with the food that I bought last year? It was fine when I tried some on Christmas Day.

lol... just this Christmas, my daughter in law did not realize that someone had slipped their business card into their gift to her. If only she knew lol... but we all had a good laugh when we saw it.

Sometimes it makes sense, especially if you know the other person would really appreciate the gift. Sometimes it can be obvious, though, if it's not something the receiver would care about. I guess it depends on the situation.

Yes, each case should be looked at individually.

I've done it and I am sure I have received some without knowing. I agree if it is something the recipient would appreciate it's fine.

I also do that , specially when i know that the recipient will like it for herself. At least , it will be useful to someone , when it will not be , for me.

I have regifted I think many of us do that. I wouldn't be upset if something I gifted got regifted I think its better than throwing it away. I don't mind getting a regift especially if it is something I can use.

@AbbyGreenhill its hard to admit because its usually hurtful if the gift giver finds out.

I don't have a good enough memory to get away with it. I'd risk gifting something back to the original giver.

I re-gift from time to time if I can't use an item.

Good for you. My MIL used to give us all kinds of 'useless' stuff that I sold at yard sales since none of it was worth regifting.

I don't re-gift, I don't know, if I would be insulted. Maybe the person giving it to me thought I would like.

Since we don't exchange with family members in years no problems with this any longer.
