I'm not the first to ask why? Huh?

I look at the photo of the young Oregon lady who deliberately ran into and over a bunch of Las Vegas folks and I wonder what gives?
She was homeless. Okay. Was she picked on? Feeling despair? Anger that others had enough that they felt it fine to splurge in Vegas activities?
I can't imagine and I don't want to imagine thinking it would be fine to ram my vehicle into innocents, whether they're kids or adults. Or dogs and cats. I can't imagine.

She does need to work and not think others will take care of her.

She deserves to work for her food. Those people want someone to feed them.

Unfortunately, it's not unheard of for people who are homeless to commit crimes to ensure that they have shelter and regular meals. If that's the case here, it's more than enough indication that it's time for change. Nobody should have to feel so desperate that something like this seems like a good option.

I have been reading about violence in the US lately and many of them are not homeless: just evil.

@marguicha Yeah, I have to agree with you there. I'm not sure if it's that we have more than our share of sick and twisted people, that we're just completely failing to look after our mentally ill, or something else.
Whatever it is, it needs to stop.

Those are the things I don´t understand at a deep level. She doesn´t have a shelter, she doesn´t have meals, but she has a car and money for gas. How do you figure?
Not even an animal deserves to be run over.

It seems that as a nation, we have become exceedingly poor at coping with just about anything. People don't know who to call for help or advice, counseling or shelter. With all the cell phones everywhere, can't we call the cops if no one else to get help? That is part of their job. A person who has no home, or is out of food, etc., can always call the police, and they will call the appropriate agencies to get some help for them. But it seems people just go in a tizzy and jump off bridges, kill someone or do some other really stupid thing, out of pointless frustration. The police are always willing to help.

If some people can't or won't help themselves then sometimes others need to step in and do what needs to be done.

@Marcyaz That is very true. There are waiting lists for all kinds of things. Being a social worker, I know about waiting lists. I wish I didn't have to. But when you have a child, usually agencies fall all over themselves to provide shelter, food and health care. It's hard to know what those in need already know about services. Sometimes I talk to people and they know so little about who can help them. Others know more than I do, because they've called everyone. Others just don't want to be bothered trying to find out, so they stay in need. Often, even if information is given that can help them, they don't follow up. But it's important for people to know that if nothing else, they can call the police or have someone else call, even if they don't have a phone. It's better than the alternatives that we are seeing.

The last news I heard about this lady is they think she has some sort of mental problems. Then I guess she would have to in order to have done what she did.
