my new favourite shop

United Kingdom

I didn't have much time. Husband had an appointment and I was simply window shopping, wasting the minutes waiting for him to hurry up and finish his business. I was mooching my way into the little shopping arcade when I spied a shop down the road. Come to me! Come browse! whispered the shop. So I did. It was a charity shop and anybody who knows me knows that I have an insatiable appetite for all things pre-loved and pre-used. But, heavens! Closer inspection revealed that it wasn't just an ordinary, run-of-the-mill charity shop. No. This was the charity shop to beat all other charity shops. It was a specialist vintage and retro charity shop. I was in paradise. Fabulous clothes from Auntie Vi's wardrobe. Pretty tea sets from Nana's kitchen cupboard. Books and annuals from cousin Anne's bookcase. Great-uncle Robert's camera. The quirkiest magazine rack {I would have bought it were it not ridiculously skew-whiffyily lopsided.} Ancient typewriters, clothing patterns, hundreds of quirky vintage suitcases, and quaint furniture from a bygone age. I left empty-handed, but mentally made a note that I will return in the new year with a pocketful of cash. I am a woman in love.

It was in a city just to the right of you, when looking at a map of England. :)

Isn't it wonderful to find a new shop filled with all sorts of treasure!! I'm sure some of those items will find their way to your house in the New Year

I hope so! I'm a bit concerned about my bank account though. That might find itself a bit unhappy if I overspend! I will need willpower. :)

Sounds good. Not many vintage stores lately.

They seem to be becoming more common. Vintage is a tad too fashionable now. Most annoying.

Great, must be nice to find a 'different' charity shop, just like the High St. the all begin to look the same...

There's only so many times I can visit my local charity shops before I realise nobody's donated anything for ages!

@Poppylicious Now there's a thought! You could be an agent (and take a small commission, of course) by taking photos and sending them to a select group who would bid for the items in the photos on the basis of "when it's gone it's gone".

@owlwings Ooh, me likey that idea. I'd probably just end up bidding for myself though and then everything would get exceedingly confusing. *grin*
