A Baby With a Purpose
Luke 2:1 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.
2 (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)
3 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.
4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)
5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.
7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. (KJV)
God promised mankind a Savior as soon as Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden.
God proclaimed His purpose – our Savior would redeem us from the power of Satan.
Genesis 3:14 And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:
15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. (KJV)
God proclaimed how our Savior would come –
Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. (KJV)
God proclaimed His name –
Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. (KJV)
Government – KING of KINGS and LORD of LORDS
Revelation 19:16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS. (KJV)
He is Wonderful – Everything Jesus does for us is Wonderful, therefore one of His names is Wonderful.
He is Counselor – We can go to Him at any time for counsel and direction in what to do with our lives.
He is The Mighty God.
Jesus said He was one with the Father.
John 10:30 I and my Father are one. (KJV)
He is The Everlasting Father. He is eternal.
Micah 5:2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting. (KJV)
He is Peace.
John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world gives, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
When the time came, God sent His Son, Jesus, from the throne room of heaven to be born of a virgin and redeem us from the curse of the law.
Galatians 4:4 But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
Can there be any doubt then that Jesus is the reason why we celebrate Christmas? If He had not been born, He would not have died, and if He had not died, we could not receive eternal life. However, He did come as a baby. He was born. He lived, and He died. But the message does not end there. He also rose again for our salvation.
Luke 24:19 And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:
20 And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him.
21 But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, today is the third day since these things were done. (KJV)
Luke 2:8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.
12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. (KJV)
As you celebrate Christmas today with your families and friends, remember the reason Jesus was born.
It is my prayer that you will have a blessed Christmas, filled with all the wonder and glory of Jesus our Savior.
Let’s pray: Father, thank you for sending Your Son, Jesus, to be born of a virgin, for the sole purpose of taking my sin upon Himself and give me eternal life. Help me to remember the reason for the season is a baby, Your Son, and how much You love me to send Him to be my Savior. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.

That is very important to remember, and I'm glad that you pointed it out-the Gift of God's son, was in effect the Gift of God Himself. To take that understanding away, is to obscure the Biblical notion of salvation and the economy of salvation which is presents.
