Day 16 – Established in God
2 Chronicles 17
Establish has many meanings: 1. To found, institute, build, or bring into being on a firm and stable basis. 2. To install or settle in a position, place, business. 3. To show to be valid or true, prove. 4. To cause to be recognized or accepted. 5. To bring about permanently. 6. To enact, appoint, or ordain for permanence, as a law; fix unalterably. 7. To make (a church) a national or state institution. (www.dictionary.com)
We establish ourselves in many of these ways: In the work we do, in the homes we build, in the families we raise, in our position within the community we live, and in the church we attend. We establish ourselves through education – becoming expert in our trained field.
We often hear how companies were founded or established in certain years – giving them an air of permanence in the community and a history of quality and value.
We also establish ourselves in God. We do so by spending time in God’s Word, reading, studying, praying, and getting to know God our Creator.
Jehoshaphat was the next king of Judah, and he was a good king, following in the ways of the Lord as David did. He fortified the cities and put garrisons in them. He got rid of the high places and groves, and he sent Levites and priests to teach the people the law of God. Because he did so, God established his kingdom and brought him riches and honor.
When we establish ourselves in God, attending to His Word, God will bring honor to our lives as well. God will bring them to the notice of kings and rulers.
Proverbs 22:29 See thou a man diligent in his business? He shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.
As Christians, God establishes us when we accept Jesus as Savior and Lord. He brings us grace and favor with those we live and work with when we follow after Him.
Are you established in God? Have you experienced God’s favor in your life? You can by spending time with God, reading His Word, and being rooted and grounded in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Let’s pray: Father, help me become established in You and Your Word. Help me grow more in You daily as I read and study Your Word, learning more about You daily. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
