Although the outcome of my 'only one discussion' test yesterday had good results, today the bank is moving very slowly. But that's not why I'm posting a new discussion....I am doing it because I want to tell you about something and I can't keep it inside any longer!
I got the Kitchen Aid Spiralizer for Christmas and today was the 'test it out' day. First I had to make my own pie crust. I can't eat pie crusts made with lard and the store bought ones have lard. So I made my first homemade pie crust ever. It looked like a winter wonderland in the kitchen - flour everywhere!
It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be, the worst was cleaning the food processor, but that was my husband's job. After that part was taken care of we finally got out the Spiraizer.
What fun that is. Naturally we didn't read the instructions, but we figured it out without a problem. First we peeled the apples and then put on the spiral blade and finished the job. Wow a difference from hand peeling and slicing!
Got the pie in the oven and when it was finished it looked good, smells good. We won't be cutting into it until a little later.
If you have been on the fence about buying a Kitchen Aid Spiraizer I recommend it highly. I can't wait to try sweet potatoes, and zucchini and all kinds of things!

@AbbyGreenhill Excellent. Here we don't get lard so I just use margarine or oil to make my pie crusts. They are good this way too. Glad you found a good recipe for you to use to make a piece crust with.

@AbbyGreenhill My son, Z, loves to bake and apple pie is one of his specialties. I may look into getting him a Spiralizer for his birthday. He was fussing about peeling the apples for the pie he baked for Christmas dinner.

Yes it probably the 21st century version - so fast and easy otherwise I would not make an apple pie from scratch.

@DWDavis That's the perfect gift for him! Check Kitchen Aid site and then look at the Amazon price - a huge difference!

That squash is an unusual shape so I'm not sure how it would work but you can always go on their website and ask.

Any veggie work - I just ordered two cookbooks specifically for the spiralizer. You name the veggie and there are recipes.

Wow, must be nice to get something you really wanted, so, what is a spiraizer?
Can you tell I don't bake much?

It is not for baking - it's for preparing. It is an attachment for Kitchen Aid stand mixer - it peels fruit or veggies, it can be used to make curly fries. People make zuccini and use it in place of spaghetti.

I avoid gadgets in the kitchen. I don't like cleaning them. Enjoy yours. I hope you get a lot of use out of it.

An attachment for Kitchen Stand Mixer - peels apples, cores and cuts them into spiral for apple pie. Also does other veggies.

I think it needed to bake a few more minutes..next time! But it was so good. I put it in the fridge last night so I hope it's not soggy today.

@AbbyGreenhill That's not a bad thing. I reminded myself of her as I love to bake. I don't think I have ever make my own crust from scratch. Your looks good.
