New Year Thoughts

We fervently look forward to every New Year with hope and aspiration. We want burdensome baggage to disappear to give us a fresh start, sort of a clean slate. These thoughts are from time immemorial willing a magic wand to set things back in pristine condition.
I am realistic but not cynical. We are what we are and do not change easily despite clear warning signs. We get the leaders we deserve and in a way allow few to flex their muscles and get carried away; we don’t rein in their exuberance on time.
We need the peace and quiet to take the next momentous step as the longer we remain in this state the more likely we are to self-destruct. We have been here too long, getting on each other’s nerves, needling others, and inching closer to the brink in terms of intolerance and weapons of mass destruction enough to destroy our pristine planet that nourishes us every moment.
A New Year is already on the roll, and may we have the wisdom to reflect the good thoughts in our heart to see the light of the day. Having lived in few countries and within few cultures, I can state incontrovertibly that 99% everywhere wants peace but allow the rest to triumph. My hope and wish for the New Year is for the majority to assert to have their way without borders.
The good and bad exist everywhere and I recall a couplet from Kabir, a 15th century Indian mystic poet - “I searched for the crooked, met not a single one; when searched myself, "I" found the crooked one”. It is time to retrospect to effect an enduring change.

Yes Janet, I cannot understand why we cannot cooperate on a global scale to tackle issues that are going out of control - mainly terrorism. What is the United Nations for? It was League of Nations after First World War, UN after Second. Will we open our eyes again only after another World War that can set us back to the Stone Age? siva

I believe in karma, so I believe that whatever good we have done in the past are seeds for good result in the future.
I do not live in the past. I live in the now and the future.
In fact, I focus on the future result so that I know to live the present wisely.

That is the way so that we have a meaning and purpose to our lives. We have to help ourselves first and for that we should be aware of the consequences of our actions.
I tried to save every year mostly by living within my income and not trying to stretch the income and then lose the plot of life! siva

@hiru84 Children love fairy tales and how the good had lived and even triumphed over the evil, but do they see good deeds in daily lives or even from their own parents? They should be appalled by how some are treated, taken advantage of, by the mighty. Then this cycle of injustice perpetuates as it is taken as the norm to succeed. Time for each other is a must and for face-to-face communication - siva

If one want things to change they have to take action to change. The best way to do this is to take small steps. Small steps can turn into big differences.
