What's Up With The Lack of....

avatars? I went over to Explore and clicked on New User. I saw smiling faces and all manner of pics as people's avatars. And, there were a lot of those green squares with the smiley guy in it saying "!". To me I don't take them seriously. I mean these people could use their favorite car, flower, selfie, dog, cat, fish, or whatever. But, instead they choose the generic Mylot avatar. I must tell you that I am not big on following any of these. I don't take them seriously.

When I joined, before starting to interact, I checked my settings, added a bio and a avatar. If someone does not take the time to do this, I believe they are not going to stay.

Even those who wish to remain incognito can put up something other than default...

@pgntwo I agree, there are plenty of sites to create an easy avatar, or they should put no matter which image.

I think a lot of us feel that way. We like to see an image beside the name of the person we are interacting with. It does not necessarily even need to be a picture of themselves. Some of the new users never bother because they come to spam the site!

And that is just what I take them for--Spammers!

@pgntwo Yes, I think I've even seen a logo for the brand they were promoting.

Or, to add insult to injury, put up a picture of the product they are promoting...

I think they want to remain anonymous! It doesn't bother me I try to worry about what I do.

It is definitely foolish for someone to join as site such as this and not bother to submit an avatar. The overall impression is that they are not particularly interested and will not be around for long, although this is not necessarily the case.

@celticeagle This will not always be the case, but until they upload an avatar that impression will remain.

I agree. And, it makes me think that they are either not interested, not a social person or that their stay here is temporary.

It could be that those that have that avatar, don't know how to upload a pic, or aren't aware that they can do so. I think the avatar is ugly myself.

I do too. I would much rather have something more personal. It just makes me more warey than I would be other wise.

@celticeagle That is so true too. I do change my avatar from time to time, as I try to keep it very personal. I am not afraid to let others know what I look like either, as I can't change anything, that is for sure.

I would rather see some kind of picture as well, maybe they are having trouble figuring it out though? I don't know.

@LovingMyBabies ...Some sites are very difficult. And, you have to have just the right size image too.

I have had the experience where on some sites it was very difficult to get the pic to upload. Maybe they are warey until they have navigated the site for awhile.

@celticeagle Yeah they could be weary about it at first. There's another site where I cannot figure out how to get my picture to upload at all.

It is odd to me as well as it is so easy to upload something at least. It does not mean I wont follow but it would be nice to help identify.

A few of them are active and commenting and responding. I would follow those but I never say yes before seeing who they are and if they are going to interact.

Easy to say, not always easy to do. I tried multiple times to change my avatar to a photo. It took me six weeks before Mylot let me.

I have only had two avatars, this one and a small glass globe. Never had a problem. But, that was then(nearly eight years ago) and this is now.

@celticeagle I like to see all of the different avatars chosen by people rather than the generic one.
