Day 20 – Unwanted 2 Chronicles 21 No one wants to go through life unwanted, unloved, rejected, or friendless. However, many people do go through life just like that. Jehoram was the next king of Judah. Instead of following in his father’s or grandfather’s footsteps in following the Lord, he followed after the evil ways of the kings of Israel and his wife was also the daughter of Ahab. If that wasn’t enough, he killed all his brothers, whom Elijah told him were better than him. Because of his evil ways, Elijah told Jehoram he would become diseased in his bowels and die, which he did two years later. With his death, the people did not do a burning for him, as previous kings, nor did they bury him in the sepulchers of his fathers, though they did bury him in Jerusalem. With all he did, we are told no one desired him when he died. What then is the recipe for being wanted, loved, accepted, and having friends? God told Moses the first thing we are to do is love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, and strength. Jesus also said we are to love our neighbors as ourselves. When we follow this recipe of loving self and others we will always find friends and those who want to spend time with us. Deuteronomy 6:5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. (KJV) Leviticus 19:18 Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself: I am the LORD. (KJV) Matthew 22:36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law? 37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. (KJV) Proverbs 18:24 A man that hath friends must show himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticks closer than a brother. (KJV) When we follow this recipe, we will never go through our lives without love or friends. People will accept us and want to be around us. Let’s pray: Father, help me to follow Your recipe of love and friendship of others so I will not go through life unwanted. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
