You've been rejected by a publisher, well you are in good company. You wouldn't believe the famous authors who have been rejected. Just to name three: * Louisa May Alcott was told to stick to teaching. Imagine not having this wonderful book about the love of a family and how they grew up. * Did you know that J.K. Rawlings novel "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" was rejected 12 times before she finally found someone willing to publish it? Think of what we all would have missed if she had not been so tenacious. * John Grisham's A Time to Kill was rejected by 16 publishers before finding an agent who eventually rejected him as well. This book became a world best seller. These authors didn't give up. They knew their books were good. Don't let rejection get you down, pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and send that manuscript out again. I know that self publishing is an option, a good one. Some of our most famous writers started out that way. Don't give up. They didn't.

I was once rejected many, many years ago. I have a little bit of final work to complete on my current work, but I shall next week be starting the process of looking for a publisher or agent. You are right, you shouldn't let rejection set you back. But today there are many requirements set by the publishers that have to be obeyed for all submissions, so writers have to make sure they obey the submission rules.

@HazySue I will not let the requirements stop me, it simply makes the process far more complicated, especially with those that are looking for on-line submissions that are in a different format.

@pgiblett true, I find myself going over and over them to make sure I understand. I don't consider myself as particularly dumb but it can get confusing.

@pgiblett there are a lot of requirements but don't let it stop you. Keep on plugging. If you are rejected, try another publisher or agent.

Vanity publishing is expensive and you have to make your own marketing which is very difficult.

@marlina I have a problem with the marketing. @marcyaz it is. It is usually better to let publishers take care of it.

I think it is very difficult to become a published author. How do you find a publishing company that is reputable?

@marcyaz It is very difficult to be published or to get an agent. I have heard that "Writer's Digest" is a good place to start.

I never had a desire to write a book so I don't have to worry about rejection.
