My coloring book in its initial stages

I'm doing it... the Adult Coloring Book is getting off the ground... So I thought I'd show you fine folks one of the pages. This is one of the eight I've done so far. I'm figuring about 30 pages total for the book, perhaps up to 40. Do you know how many pages you'd like in a coloring book, if you use them?

This looks very promising! The idea of a sea dragon hadn't occurred to me before and I like your imaginative interpretation! The number of pages will depend on the format of the book, how you propose to market it, how much it will cost you to produce and what would be considered a reasonable price to sell it at. A little market research will quickly answer those questions, of course. If it's a printed book, it will probably be A4/Letter size and will probably have a coloured cover with either folded and stapled leaves or 'perfect bound' (glued spine) leaves. It is common to calculate the number of pages (drawings) as multiples of four or eight (depending on the printing and production method), since the pages will probably be printed four up on A2 (or the equivalent American size of 4 x Letter). You may also want to decide whether your pages are single-sided or double-sided. This will affect the quality of paper you choose - double-sided would probably require a heavier quality paper to avoid show-through. I am not sure what a suitable price would be but I would expect that something slightly under $5 or $10 (for more pages) would be something to aim for. Looking at the existing market will tell you a great deal about what is expected and what will sell.

Thank you for the thoughtful answer! The format will be perfect bound, I'm vacillating between 30 and 40 pages or somewhere in there, and the price it will take me to print it is a little less than $5 each. The cover will be color and most likely glossy. The printing outfit I use doesn't ask me to do things in multiples of 4 or 8 though I know exactly what you are talking about. In my research I've seen these sell for roughly $15 on average. I want to provide a good, solid offering with as much value in it as other similar books. I think I'll go back to the research I've been doing to check average page count.

@Rohvannyn Perfect bound books can have as many pages as you choose, of course, but, since the printing will almost certainly be on a larger size of paper (either 2-up or 4-up) and the book will often be made up in the traditional way with folded sheets (though guillotined on all four sides instead of three), there's less wastage if your number of pages is a multiple of 4 (including prelims and any blank pages you wanted to include as handy 'test sheets'), so 32 or 36 pages sounds reasonable.

I do not have the patience even for half a page. I wonder what is the reason for all the craze in coloring books. I have a colleague who had spent thousands on pencils, and coloring books.

Looks like a good project. Show us some more pages. The pages depend if they have interesting drawings, I'll try them all.

I think you have a great idea here. I can imagine this colored in many hues of blues and greens and maybe something shimmery.

Thirty to forty pages is what I've seen with the coloring books that I get for friends.

@story07, @scheng1, @rahulvsmokiee Wow, the three first responses I've gotten are pretty negative! Sounds like it might not be such a good project.
