Many are often confused between macaroons and macarons. Macaroons and macarons are both different types of cookies.
+ What is a macaron? A macaron is a meringue-based cookie made with almond flour, egg whites, granulated/powdered sugar filled with buttercream, ganache or fruit curd.
+ What is a macaroon? A light cookie made with egg whites, sugar, and dried coconut.
Both cookies are delicious but my favorite are macarons (as pictured)! They are often expensive though, each cookie is $2 and the size of the cookie is just a little larger than a half dollar coin - literally bite sized.
Although I have never been to France for macarons, I was very fortunate to have my sister bring me back some from her travels! Since then, I was hooked on macarons and often find myself buying macarons from Lette or Whole Foods.
There are all sorts of flavors to pick from.
Example of flavors at Lette:
- Caribbean Chocolate
- Coconut
- Colombian Coffee
- Earl Grey Tea
- Lemon
- Madagascar Vanilla
- Passion Fruit
- Rose
- Raspberry
- Salted Carmel
- Sicilian Pistachio
- Red Velvet
- Sweet Wedding Almond
- Violet Cassis
- Along with seasonal flavors (varies)
Have you ever tried macarons or macaroons? Do you also enjoy macarons? What are your favorite flavors? My favorite flavors are chocolate, salted caramel, coconut and pistachio!

I haven't tried either, in fact, I've never even heard of a "macaron" before.
I have heard about macaroons from the Food Network Channel.

Oh yes, macaron is very popular now! I was introduced by my sister and I wish I could make them. I've heard they're hard to make because you have to follow instructions accordingly and I'm not where close to a baker.

Thank you for the clarification. I have always preferred macaroons. Any pastry with coconut attracts my delicate taste.
