More Fires in Western Australia

South-west Western Australia has been hit by another massive fire. Eleven thousand hectares have already been burnt and one town evacuated. Both highways to the capital, Perth, have been closed. The advancement of the fire has been very rapid. For a change, it was started by lightning thank goodness and not be an arsonist. Residents in Preston Beach have been told it is too late to leave their homes safely. If they can't defend their homes they need to head to the beach to be safe. Strong winds are blowing embers long distances ahead of the fire and it is these that pose a danger to houses well before the main fire strikes. Our friend who is a volunteer 'firey' is likely to be called to help fight the blaze. And the summer has just begun!

This isn't cool. I will keep them in my prayers and hope they control the fire

@T_gray Four towns are still under threat. One of those has lost a lot of houses. Today is hot and windy again and the fire is continuing out of control. No lives lost that we've heard of but 50,000 hectares burnt.

This is really terrible and I pray all those concerned will join hands in controlling the fire and that affected people will be safe.

Thank you for your kind words. There will be a lot of property damage at the very least.

I'm so sorry to hear that! One of my son-in-laws and four of my nephews are all firemen. I always hate to hear about wildfires, because I know at least some of them will be involved.

They all deserve medals. It is around 35C at least with 40 mph winds. The fire-fighters must get so hot in all their protective gear.

@JudyEv - The heat is usually an issue for the firefighters here in Southern California, too, when they fight brush fires. I don't know how they do it.
