Aching Teeth

A week ago, I was sitting down to a nice seafood dinner. As I was digging into some amazingly delicious scallops, I took a bite and somehow bit down too hard, striking my top and bottom teeth on the fork, causing excruciating pain in my teeth. I had a slight feeling of panic, thinking I chipped or broke a tooth, but after a quick trip to look in the bathroom mirror, I was relieved to see that all of my teeth were still intact and in place. However, as the week has gone on, my bottom teeth where I bit down on the fork have really been aching, and it seems to be getting a little worse each day. Again, after careful examination in a mirror, none of my teeth are loose or out of place, and there are no visible chips or cracks. So why are my teeth bothering me so much? What is causing the pain?

I wouldn't really know to be honest and I'm sorry they have been hurting. It's been a while since you did this post so thought I would just check in on you about it? Are they still hurting? I hope not cause it would suck if you did have to visit the dentist. The dentist is scary and cost too much!

It's not hurting as bad as it was, but there is still somewhat of a dull throb, although I don't notice is most of the time. But the fact that there is still some lingering pain means there had to be some kind of damage to my teeth, even though it's not noticeable. I have a dentist appointment set up for February 1, so I'll find out more then. I have good dental insurance, so it won't be that expensive at all. I'll pay a $20 co-pay at the time of the visit, and my insurance will cover the rest.

I am not sure but here is some links friend: My teeth hurt occasionally but I have started using Crest 3D White rinse and the problem has been fixed.
Pain in a tooth is commonly linked in the minds of many with a dental cavity. Yet the complexities of the inside of a tooth and its connections with surrounding tissues make tooth pain without a cavity a common finding. Understanding the possible causes ca

There is something wrong if your teeth hurt more now than a few days ago. I suggest to go to see your dentist without waiting.

Besides @UncleJoe 's excellent idea, you could always use Numzit.

I never heard of Numzit! I assume it's a numbing agent. I'll look it up. Do you think whiskey will accomplish the same thing? lol

@moffittjc Yes, it is a numbing agent. And believe it or not, whiskey swooshed and held at the location of the pain would work. Before swallowing of course. lol

Hopefully it would have been getting better gradually rather than worse. Perhaps you should see your dentist.

I'm thinking of giving it another week before I give in and go to the dentist. The pain feels like it's more down in my roots than up in my actual teeth.

@moffittjc You should call before it can get worse.

That doesn't sound too good. It could just be some damage to your gums. But I think a trip to the dentist is in order.

It's definitely not going to hurt anything to go see the dentist, so I think I'll go ahead and call and make an appointment. Besides, I have good dental insurance, so there's no excuse for not going!

@moffittjc No especially if they are hurting more that's kind of unusual I think.

You've probably bruised your gums.

I hope it's something like that, and not something more serious!

If it doesn't start feeling better a trip to the dentist and an xray might be needed. Hopefully it isn't anything serious

We'll see how it feels after this weekend. If the pain is still there, then I will make a dentist appointment on Monday morning.

Perhaps you need an X-Ray. You may need a root canal.

That I will definitely do! In the not so distant future it will be time for my semi-annual cleaning and checkup.
