Over the Mountain: A Dream

Most of the time I do not remember my dreams. But I remember last night’s strange dream. Before going to bed last night I looked out the window and noticed it was very foggy. I don’t know if that played into my dream, but if it did I don’t think that was the gist of the dream. The dream starts with me telling someone I’m going to walk over a mountain to the town on the other side. (In real life I do not live where this is possible.) I start out on a well travelled path. The journey had been made by thousands of people so the path is very easy to follow. As I near the top of the mountain the fog settles in. It is so thick I can barely see the path. The path gets lighter and lighter with each step. I follow what I think is the path. Finally I come out of the fog. The first thing I see is a man walking away from me with a huge spider on his shoulder. At first it scares me because I’m afraid the man is going to get bit. Then I look closer and realize it’s not a spider but chipmunk. The chipmunk runs from one shoulder to the other. The next thing I know I’m sitting on a rock on top of the mountain next to another man. Behind us is a food service truck. We are both eating but I can’t remember if I bought the food or if I went into the truck and fixed the food myself. The man sitting next to me asks me where I’m going. I tell him. The man laughs. “You’ve been going around in circles,” he says. I become angry but I don’t know if I’m angry at myself for walking around in circles or angry at the man for telling me because I’m not sure I believe him. Then another guy appears and says, “I’m the owner of the food truck and I have given many people a ride off this mountain. Would you like a ride? I do charge a fee for my services.” “Are you crazy?” I ask. “I’m not going to pay to get off this mountain. Thousands of people have made this journey. If they can do it, so can I. If nothing else, I’ll follow the trail you used to get up here.” “Whatever cranks your crank,” the guy says. At this point I wake up. Why is it every time you get to the most important part of a dream, you wake up? Here this dream left me stranded on a mountain. Do I make it down the mountain safely to the town on the other side? Or do I give up and go back the way I had come? Or do I walk in circles forever–if that’s what I was doing? Maybe dreams are meant to leave us confused. Meant to make us think about things. If I were to finish this dream, I believe I would find the path off the mountain and make it safely to the town on the other side.

Ohhhhh, don't you hate it when that happens?? You just wish you could go back to sleep and continue that dream! It's a cliff hanger and you'll never know what happens. I think dreams are all your experiences, thoughts, and emotions all jumbled up in your brain blender. I don't know if they really have meanings, but certainly it's entertaining how your mind throws it all together into one crazy story. You, in reality, would have found the path off the mountain. But as most dreams go, you know in your dream something would have crossed your path and some other nutty thing would happen. What's that ol' kids song . . . Richard went over the mountain, Richard went over the mountain, Richard went over the mountaaaaaaaaaaaaain . . . to see what he could see. (And what did Richard see? The other side of the mountain!)

I kind of remember that song. You're probably right about something strange happening as I'm headed down the path off the other side of the mountain. Possibly a grizzly coming growling out of the woods. Then it might turn into a kitty cat.

@RichardMeister Or maybe a mechanic trying to run after you to make you pay a bill for a part that he forgot to charge you!

@much2say That could be. But I would be wondering what a mechanic would be doing up there. But I guess in dreams nothing has to make any sense. Oh, by the way, I take it you're not the Californian that won the lottery.

That was a very vivid dream. From what I can determine from the dream dictionary you are reaching for something in you life, perhaps at work like climbing the corporate ladder. Going in circles could mean you think you're not making any headway, but in the end you are confident that you are. It's up to you to decided which one it is.

@RichardMeister You may not be in the workplace, like me. If I thought about it for myself it would be about achieving dreams and goals. Or it could be what is constantly on your mind. Dreams are a way for our subconscious to work things out, or messages from a higher power or in my case sometimes, my loved ones who have passed.

Interesting. I know the dream has nothing to do with the workplace since I no longer work. I am, however, hoping Congress will pass the 1% increase in our Social Security. Not much I can do about that except contact my Congressman–which I did.

It's strange how our dreams can take us to so many different places, and so many different people are involved. I am sure you wanted to go back into that dream and find the path.
