When I was about 16 I decided I needed to have some money coming in on a regular basis. I looked around trying to decide where I could work that would take into account that I was still in high school. Before you know it I found the perfect job. I obtained a job at an ice cream place called Buxton's. It sold a kinds of ice cream and sandwiches. Before long the night and weekend serving staff was made up of mostly teenagers. We would take the orders, serve the sandwiches, make the sundaes and milkshakes and clean up. The people who owned the shop were terrific. It was a great job. You made money and still were able to study so you could keep those grades up. What was your first job?

My very first actual for money job was working the snack bar at lunch time in high school. Food related also!

@AbbyGreenhill it sounds like a decent job. A lot of us seemed to work with food somewhere along the way.

@hazysue I pumped gas, or as we say here, was a petrol pump attendant, an occupation that is now extinct here. Money was terrible.

@xFiacre I was lucky, I got to work indoors and make money. Sometimes I wish there were still attendants pumping gas.

I supervised ramp operations at a small airport in the west of Ireland for a few weeks one summer - interesting and rarely boring!

@xFiacre Not in my time - I did get to service a Ryanair BAC 1-11, a bit earlier than the one shown in this video:
View of a Ryanair BAC 111 at Knock Airport note the hush kits on the Rolls Royce Spey engines. Plenty of noise as it takes off on the 8,500 ft runway. Video ...

@pgntwo it sounds like it might be a bit boring but sometimes boring is a whole lot better than running your feet off.

@HazySue I don't play much now but the piano teaching gave me a good income for many years.

@HazySue I enjoyed it and it was handy to work right there. It wasn't my first job though.

My first job was a "gift wrapper" at a department store during the Christmas Season one year. It was a temporary seasonal job.
