Button, Button, Who has the Button?

When my children were small they accompanied me almost everywhere. Fabric shopping was a challenge....until...they discovered buttons. The large fabric shop had a bin of discontinued buttons priced at 10 cards for $1.00. My young children loved buttons. Each time we would go to this fabric shop I would give them a basket, and let each of the four choose 5 cards of buttons. For a mere $2, I could get my fabric in peace as well as an assortment of buttons that I could use. Now that I am shopping with my grandchildren, I wish they still had a bin of buttons. Grandma would let us play with her button jars when we were kids. Great white glass jars from cold cream, blue ones from Noxema. I miss glass jars.

Buttons were a great source of entertainment. Also educational, counting, colours, sizes. Patterns.....

I always loved buttons. But, prices for buttons are so high now and, as you said, you can't find bins of them anymore. If you are lucky enough to find them in a thrift store, they have decided they're collectible and price them higher than they should be (unless they are truly antique and irreplaceable.) I always loved that stuff and office supplies. I still migrate to the office and school supplies any time I'm in a department store.

My mother still has two big boxes of buttons, I must remember to ask her to give them to me.

My mom still has a button box and as each grandchild came along they were enthralled with all the different buttons. My youngest granddaughter will say to grandma.."lets go play buttons"

That's a clever idea. I suppose you still have some of those buttons.

I have about six large bottles of buttons....that's after I donated quite a few to the library and the church Sunday school program for crafts.

My son would get down on the floor and pick up all the pins dropped by the cutting table. The ladies of Wal Mart loved him.

My kids did great with buttons, but our small local fabric shop owner commented. Every time a child spends time in the store all the threads are messed up and the zippers rearranged.
