According to Dianne Turner and Thelma Greco each of us fits to within four basic personality types. Which are you? North has the following characteristics: Gets the job done - FAST. Loves to lead, focused on achieving goals, fast paced, focuses of tasks that need completing, is both assertive and decisive, determined, and competitive, works independently of others. South whose characteristics are: Builds the best of teams. A natural team player, thinks about the process of getting things done. A good listener and is non-confrontational, sensitive and patient as well as understanding, but as a result is slow paced in their work. Both generous and helpful. East: Looks to do it right first time around. A natural planner, thinks about quality, is analytical, organised, and logical ensuring all approaches are identified. They are structured and focused, looking for an exact result, but also very industrious. West who will: Seek to expand all the horizons, but are a natural risk taker. They are idea centred, creative and innovative, but also flexible and a visionary possessing huge amounts of spontaneity. They are enthusiastic, free spirited and energetic. You will find a part of yourself in each area, that is natural, but one of these segments of the compass should capture the essence of your personality. Which are you?

In my previous life I would estimate to be North Peter. Now I may lean toward the East. Although I have to sleep with my head facing North lolz

@TiarasOceanView I guess I understand the concept of living on the north shore and being related. I live midway between two major lakes to my north (so I guess that is the south shore) is Lake Ontario and to my south (north shore) is Lake Erie.

I can underline characteristics in each area, but tend towards either North-east or North-west depending on how I feel.

@pgiblett We have North in common then Peter. When I lived by the sea on the Northshore, I was the most content I found as well. The wild and windy North.

@pgiblett Other assessments have (somewhat kindly) identified me as "The Ideas Person" because I love working out (and telling people) the best or most efficient way of doing things but tend to lose interest in doing something myself once I've seen the right way to do it.

@owlwings That is funny I am also very much an ideas person, once I have the idea I leave it with others to implement, which is why I picture myself as being mainly north, but also north-west. If I know the right way to do something it frustrates me when people don't obey my commands (not that I have ever been in the armed services).

Mostly East for sure. I dont know how or what does "very industrious" means here. But all the rest fit me. From the others, I think I am some traits from North and South but definitely not West (maybe because the west is complimentary or opposite of East).

@pgiblett Oh. Thanks for the explanation. Now, with that info and being honest, I do not fit anywhere as being very industrious - my present scenario and conditions have put me on back foot and I cannot be that determined to get things done. Yes, years back, when I was in good health, I did chase on getting things done on time. These days, things that are not under my control, and done late, I feel irritated by those.

@thesids So do you still count yourself as East?

West and East seem to be almost exclusive, whereas North and South probably know they must work together. I see 'very industrious' as being determined to get the thing done, or at least have a plan to have someone do it.

@AbbyGreenhill I do understand that. In the book that I have, there are traits in each area that I count myself as having. Truth is there have been many attempts to categorise people, most of which don't seem very effective.

I get that, that is the challenge with these types of analysis, I bet you can tick of many traits that are you in each area.

@jaboUK There have been many who have tried to characterise our personal traits, sometimes the categories don't seem to work. It is also my contention that your personality develops over time and you change focus from time to time, stepping into different categories.

That is because the personality trait people hate working with your kind he... he... he... One of the thoughts I always have about trying to classify people is that they don't always fit in boxes. Some of the worlds brightest certainly don't.

I agree with you about finding parts of ourselves in all four but overall I would have to say that I am West. Blessings.

The traits for each direction are listed. Most people will find traits in all zones that match them, but once you have ticked of the ones that match you you should be able to find one zone that has more ticks in it than any other.

I love it when I see people who pick opposite side of the spectrum - I guess another square peg in a round hole syndrome - I am never sure any categorisation can ever adequately describe people (we are far more complex).

Most in the North believe themselves to be a mixture of other elements from other compass directions. I myself believe I swing between Northwest and Northeast.

Each segment of the compass encompasses millions of people sort of like horoscopes. Saying people are short or tall, thin or fat, old or young and no one just belongs in one of the groups. I find myself equally parts of myself in North (determined, works independently of others) East (Do right first time around, structured) South (both generous and helpful, sensitive and patient) West (enthusiastic, free spirited and energetic)--did I mention I am perfect?

That has for a long time been my contention about trying to classify people's personality, there is a tendency to try to shoehorn people into boxes that they don't fit.

I wonder what those two authors would say to someone who said they possessed a little of all these qualities? That's what I would say. I have some of the traits of all the points.

Yes I get that. It is their supposition that we all have a some elements in each area (1 maybe 2) but in one area tends to be more you (5 or 6 elements). My own view about all of this is that it is difficult to box personalities, many people have tried and I have disagreed with most.
