My great great grandfather (I believe that's the relation) died from complications of tuberculosis. He did not have to die that way though. According to what I have been told, he was made to get out of the fields. I think he was in his late 80's when his family said enough was enough, he had to get out of the fields.
If I'm not mistaken it was about a year later that he died because of complications from tuberculosis. He was out in the fields from sun up until sun down and had no real health issues until he was told to go inside and stay there.
Yes there are dangers to being outside too long, more so now than in the late 1800's (which was when he died) but being outside is still very good for you. Being active is good for you.

Late 80's...in the UK we'd say he had a "good innings" which is a cricket related saying that means he lived to a good age.
TB is making a comeback in some places from what I've heard
There used to be TB sanatoriums here which I've read a lot about.

EEK! atleast now we know more about it and can treat it better. I have heard about sanitoriums in the past but none specific to tuberculosis. I'd imagine we had a few places like that here though.

I need to be more active about going outside. I know that I can walk around the neighborhood in about an hour's time and should make a concerted effort to do that more once it gets nice out.

I really need to start being more active. Because I haven't been recently. And I believe it's just making me more stressed and stuff..
