I have always been interested in the stories of Czar Nicholas and his daughter Anastasia.
There have been many young ladies claiming to be the daughter of Czar Nicholas II of Russia.
On July 17, 1918, Nicholas, his wife Alexandra and their five children along with four family retainers, among them were a Dr. who was at their home when they were told: or rather ordered to dress quickly and go down to the cellar of the house in which they were being held.
There, the guards quickly came down the steps and shot everyone.
However rumors have persisted that the youngest Romanov child Anastasia was alive and well.
Do you believe she was alive or was she killed with the rest of her family.

I think by this time she would probably not be alive if she had survived.

I can't believe that history is no longer taught or people are just not interested in it.

This rumour originated because all the bodies were not buried in the same place, so when the family grave was discovered it was assumed that she had either been spared on escaped.
It was only recently that the bodies of Anastasia and her sister were discovered, thus finally ending the rumours.

@Marcyaz Naturally they did not have the DNA of Anastasia herself, but they did match the DNA of the two bodies to the Romanov family. With the ability to determine gender and approximate age from skeletal remains, there was no doubt about the identity.

I remember seeing Helen Hayes and Susan Strassberg in a play on Broadway about her and then a movie starring Ingrid Bergman and Yul Brynner about the same subject--nether answered the question but the romantic in me would prefer to believe she survived, got to Paris and though very few believed her lead some sort of happy life.

I also would like to believe she somehow survived and was happy the rest of her life. I bet those plays were beautifully done.

I don't think that she did survive. I have seen several movies on the subject. She must have well loved and the family was special to many. I think they wanted some to have survived.

To be really honest, I had no idea Anastasia was a real person. I remember seeing a Disney movie called Anastasia when I was little but I didn't know it was ever a real person and I can't really remember if the movie was based or had an influence from the real Anastasia.
Either way, the real story is sad.
