How do I find out if I have been blocked?

During the recent wave of discussions concerning members who indiscriminately block others, I began to wonder if there was any way to track such occurrences. I do realise that if I attempt to post a comment on the discussions of someone who has blocked me it will become apparent, but cannot think of any way to check across the board. The only one that I ever encountered was by pure chance because I noticed a discussion that appealed to me. Now, with much talk of the habit becoming more prolific, I would be curious to know if this has applied to me. Obviously it would be an issue because if I never notice then a block will have no effect, but I cannot think of any way to check this. There are no lists of who has blocked us and not even a list of members here to look through. In theory a member could block me and years later I would still be unaware that the member even existed.

I agree - I only found that I had been blocked by this latest person, as it was being discussed on another post. I just checked out of curiosity, and yes - I was blocked too. Seems rather silly to me.

Since I have no idea who the latest block addicts are, it would be impossible for me to even check. This is what really piqued my curiosity.

I could care less if I have been blocked or not because in the first place I doubt if I would even be aware of it.

@Marcyaz I feel pretty much the same, but my curiosity became aroused once I realised that I was unable to even check. I would hate to think that most members had been blocked but I was not, I would tend to feel rather left out.

I am not sure why do we need such feature. It adds to a big issue in this site right now. We can defend ourselves if being blocked by the blocker. Despite of this concern, I would just ignore the fact of being blocked.

I have no concern if a person chooses to block me, but do find it odd that someone may do so and I will never even be aware of it.

Berry we should ask Alex to add a notification to inform us when we are blocked. Some block the users they suspect could "report" them if they are cheaters.

That might be a decent idea, although they may have some reason for not having added this feature previously.

I don't know why this is such a big deal. People have a right to block if they wish. And, so what if they do? It's their loss as far as I am concerned.

@purplealabaster The motivation eludes me completely, yet this has become a practice here with some members.

@Asylum But that is the thing that I don't understand. There are some people who say they have been blocked even before interacting with a person. If I haven't had an interaction with you, then what would be the motivation for the block, especially since there is a fairly good chance that I will not even realize that I have been blocked?

In 'real life' if my friends did something similar to me I might worry, but here...not so much. I just have to wonder what the 'blocker' gets out of doing it.

Really? We've been interacting for a while...and it has been fun. Suddenly I block you...would you not hurt? What did I say that hurt the person. I went through a series of posts and comments with that person. I never found out where I went wrong...so I concluded that expressions that seem ok to me are not ok to them.

@Drosophila ..I guess I need a change in my attitude then. But if it was not such a big deal, how come so many people are coming up with posts on the subject and comments that show their need for explanations.

@vandana7 What can I say, people do things all the time for their own reasons. They might not always be willing to tell the "blockee" all about it either.. If you've blocked me, then I'll respect your decision. I apologise for whatever action I've undertaken to get me blocked. I hope you'll come around and unblock me one day. The ball is in your court.. Tends to be my general thoughts.

Time was when "being blocked" meant something completely different... I agree there is a gap in the logic and notification system on myLot in this regard, though.

It does not concern me at all, but once I realised the difficulty in acquiring such information it became more interesting. If I never find out then it means that I have never attempted to respond to any of their discussions, so naturally it cannot have any effect on me.

@Asylum Stuff like that interests some people. The intricacies of websites don't interest me, however. I like the people, especially those who do not live in the same circumstances that I do. Culture has always been my thing. No idea why.

There is no clear way to know if any member has actually blocked us. If you happen to visit discussions/posts of a particular user and you do not find the caption 'respond' or 'comment', it means that particular user has blocked you. It happened with me recently that a user blocked me without any reason and when I wanted to check her comments on my response, I came to know that I cannot make further comments because she has blocked me. (I started a discussion about it). And above all, icing on the cake is - The user is sending me a message - Sarcastically telling me - "I have blocked you....."

Oh yes, I am aware of that part. Of course there are some members here who have blocked masses of members without ever interacting, so there is no way of knowing if we are blocked without knowing who to check.

Basically you need to do one of two things. Visit all the profiles on the site or second when you go to post a response on an account you can't. There is no search function toask if you've been blocked. So basically it is better to not worry about it and just have fun.

@Asylum Over the years I have found few who we connect like soulmates to share views and interact. When we paint with the same brush based on pre-conceived notions we shrink our space. It is better that we leave the door open and interact when we feel comfortable in sites like these - siva
