One thing my boyfriend and I talked about for the future is when we have a home with a yard, We would love to have a pond with koi fish. His childhood he had several koi fish until some neighbors cat got to them!
Koi fish are beautiful and who wouldn’t want a pond outside to relax to?
Some facts about Koi Fish,
- The Koi Fish originated in Japan. This fish is believed to symbolize - love, wealth, good fortune, prosperity, and successful career.
- Koi fish could be a large fish, up to 3 feet depending on their living conditions.
- Lifespan of Koi fish is quite long, 25-30 years or up to 100-200 years depending on their living conditions.
- Animals such as otters, raccoons, dogs, birds, snakes, cats love to koi fish, so keep those animals far away!
- For rare colors, koi fish can cost a lot of money! Even up to thousands.

I do too... but first need to afford a home. California homes are a joke.

@T_gray Rentals are a joke too! But one day one day!
I would get a fixer upper and take time making it my own.. but hardly any of those around.

@infatuatedbby the affordable homes here are run down. And the nice houses are expensive. So i hear ya. It's the same with rentals though. One day though, one day.

We used to visit a little resort town up in the mountains. My boyfriend took me around the town showing me the houses he had worked on when I first went up there. One of the houses had a garden area and large yard.. A small pond was off to the side and it had some in it. Very tranquil place to visit and I did many times.

Koi Fish is actually eaten by the rice farmers before someone notices that the koi fish is beautiful.
The colors of the fish are very unique, and very beautiful.
I think koi fish must be delicious, else the farmers in the past will not want to eat them.

We have a well stocked koi pond. We've had it for probably fifteen years. We dug our pond out to be quite deep, close to five feet, because we didn't want it to completely freeze over in the winter, that way the fish can survive because we turn the bubbler on to keep a current in the pond. The nicest thing about the pond is the sound of the water on the waterfalls. The fish are nice to watch, we have koi but over the years have also bought fantail goldfish. They can breed together and you get some beautiful fish as a result, I prefer the looks of the fantails.

@infatuatedbby Mixing their breeds has helped them tolerate our cold Canadian winters, they are outside 365 days of the year and most of them are about ten years old now.

@Juliaacv That is awesome! Is it because you mix their breeds, they are warmer?

I'd love a Koi pond as well, though I don't think I'll really go and have it in my yard. I always like to see them swimming around. As you said, they are very beautiful. My uncle has a Koi pond at his yard, as he likes fish. He also put a small fountain decoration set and a small artificial rock mountain there. It's nice to go for a visit and look at the fish as well.
Hope your dream will come true!

Incredibly, there are a couple of koi fish up at Borges Ranch, where I take the kids to see the goats, etc. They're in an old metal cow feeder/waterer. I would have thought the coyotes or raccoons would have eaten them by now.

Sounds like a cool spot to have a koi pod! I am surprised no animals got to fish yet either!

@infatuatedbby So would I. To me it seems as though it would be so relaxing watching the Koi swim around in the pond.
