Non-sense post - Number seven

To all my USA friends that should be waking soon - I hope that you have rested well. So my question is: HOW MUCH SLEEP DO WE REALLY NEED? "Some people say they can function on four to six hours of sleep each night, but research shows that adults who get fewer than seven hours of sleep — whether for just one night or over the course of days, weeks, or months — have more difficulty concentrating and more mood problems than people who sleep seven to nine" - Google This tells me that I need to sleep for at least an hour more than I am at the moment, but I am wondering if sleep patterns change as we get older? I would be able to cope with 4 - 5 hours ten years ago, but now I sleep more except for those nights that I am super hyped and dont sleep at all! The Sleep foundation has this to say: QUOTE "Newborns (0-3 months): Sleep range narrowed to 14-17 hours each day (previously it was 12-18) Infants (4-11 months): Sleep range widened two hours to 12-15 hours (previously it was 14-15) Toddlers (1-2 years): Sleep range widened by one hour to 11-14 hours (previously it was 12-14) Preschoolers (3-5): Sleep range widened by one hour to 10-13 hours (previously it was 11-13) School age children (6-13): Sleep range widened by one hour to 9-11 hours (previously it was 10-11) Teenagers (14-17): Sleep range widened by one hour to 8-10 hours (previously it was 8.5-9.5) Younger adults (18-25): Sleep range is 7-9 hours (new age category) Adults (26-64): Sleep range did not change and remains 7-9 hours Older adults (65+): Sleep range is 7-8 hours (new age category) So what are your patterns of sleep and how do they define your habits of the day?

According to this I should be at 7-9 hours. I currently get about 6-7 which explains why I need a nap at some point during the day.

I've always been a terrible sleeper. Even as a child I was up and down a lot of I was in bed more than 8-9 hours a night. Now I average right at 6 hours of sleep, and I think I function pretty well on that.

most times I can get away with 6 - thats a good amount for me - but at least once a week I have a 3 - 4 hour night - a bad one
