The pegs no longer work, upcycling

We moved a shelf unit with us. It had one permanent shelf and others that were supported by pegs. We never noticed before putting it in this kitchen, on one side the holes for the pegs were not even with one another. On top of that, I lost some pegs. I purchased more, but either they were too big, or too small around. The shelves would not sit down where they should. I was very frustrated with this situation both Friday and Saturday. Hubby and I talked and decided we would put rails for each shelf to sit in. Actually the ones in top are still on pegs, we decided to do rails for the bottom, so far as that was where the problem existed. Then I could not find my square stock to make these rails. We could not get it where we looked, either. None of the stores had enough suitable stock for what we were visualizing. It was getting late Saturday night. Hubby ended up buying some L brackets, and there was not enough of any one kind so he bought two different kinds. I was not a happy camper. When we got home, I got to looking around, and guess what?! I found some pieces of trim he had removed to make a doorway large enough for the washer to go through.. There was just enough to build the shelf supports for two shelves. Hubby cut them to length last night. Right after he went to work this morning I secured them with some all purpose glue. I leveled them front to back and side to side. I will now secure them with short screws as well. Then I can put what I need to into these shelves. I am glad to have upcycled wood scraps that would have been trash into something very useful for us.

I fixed one of those by inserting a twig from a tree outside. I was so proud of myself! Then the other day I realized one of the shelves is sagging in the middle (I have canned goods on it) and I am now supporting it with two 2-liter water bottles that were lying on their sides. They fit perfectly, and I'm storing them and using them as a prop at the same time.

There is always more than one way to go about making something work, isn't there? I have used bricks wrapped in pretty cloth as shelf supports before today.

Funny what a little thought can cause isn't it? Now you have your shelves.

It feels really good to make use of something you thought it was useless right?

We are always fossicking in the workshop and finding stuff which will 'do' rather than having to buy something new.

It is nice when things can be put to use like that. On the other hand it's the reason I keep stuff for ever!

My husband always saves the wood to reuse, it's amazing what you can do with scraps.
