Making kids' computer mouse

Kids' handmade mouse

My children see me working with computer, and they want to work as well. They have always been imitated how we work. This afternoon, my children were setting up their "office", and wanted to start working with "computer". They couldn't find their mouse that I gave them last time, which is not usable anymore, and I don't have any spare mouse for them, so they decided to make their own mouse. Well, it's just a simple mouse, made by a few pieces of cardboard and yarn. They are happy with the mouse they made, and of course I am happy with that as well. I always like them to make things on their own, so I do not really buy toys for them, but just keep many cardboard boxes. Also, it's a good activity for kids and parents as well. Do you like to make your own stuffs or DIY?

Thanks. Those are actually very simple things, but I am happy with them as they always happy with just simple things. There was once I wanted to make a play kitchen for my son when he was young. I took out the cardboard boxes, and wanted to discuss with him how to decorate the boxes. He said, it's good to just be that without any decoration. So, it saved my time and effort for the decoration, and two of them have been playing with the boxes for years. I learned "simplicity" from the children, think simple, do simple, and just have fun.

@TiarasOceanView Thanks. I would really like if they always enjoy the simple life and not to be materialistic even when they grow up. It'd be fun to play with them once in a while, but sometimes I will be tired to be kept asking what I want to eat or buy EVERYDAY. Now, they are really into selling things, and many times a day they will keep asking what I want to buy. They really take the real stuffs and "sell" to me, but I don't really want to "buy" those stuffs. Kids can really play the same game again and again for days.

Yes. I am always running in and out from my home office while the children are awake. I either attend to them, spend time with them, or doing other housework.

A pair of mice.
You could have set a few traps and caught some mice for them, which would also come with a ready fitted tail to attach to the computer.

That's a good idea, if I dare to catch a mouse. You do have many cute animated pictures!

@kaka135 I have a very large selection which I have been collecting for years. They are in a folder, containing sub folders for categories and archived.

Thanks. Yes, I think that as well. I always think it's good to use our hands to create something, good for our hands and our brain as well. I was not a person who liked to make things on my own when I was young. I am learning that after becoming a mother.

@Marcyaz That's good. I didn't do much when I was a kid. I think I spent more time chatting with others, or just reading. I was not into craft making at all. But I think it's really a good thing, hence I always like to involve my children in making things with their hands.

@kaka135 I made a lot of things as a child since I didn't have a lot of children to play with for a time and I tried to involve my children in doing this when they were young.

Thanks. Yes, I am glad that my son finally thought of that idea. I wouldn't have thought of that as well, I just told them to use without a mouse. I actually prefer them to play with papers or cardboard, rather than the plastics. So now I can really throw my unusable mouse away, and not keeping the rubbish.

@infatuatedbby I really appreciate the invention of Internet, and many people are sharing their ideas and even tutorials online. I didn't know how to do all those things until recent few years, I kept getting ideas and learning from the Internet. I feel so grateful to be able to make something by my hands now. It's really a blessing.

@kaka135 I love how creative your family is! I hope to be creative too when I have kids and hope they will appreciate toys from paper, cardboard, yarn and making it themselves.

As early as now, the kiddos are starting to be creative in good way. In contrary to some children, they tend to be dependent in asking money to buy something. You are lucky really a lucky dad! I can sense that you are so proud of them.

I think kids used to be more creative in those old days, as they always had to make their own toys, or create their games. Unlike nowadays, most children have almost all the toys, so they don't create their own. This is the reason I always don't dare to give my handmade crafts to other kids, as I'm afraid they might not appreciate such a simple gift. Yes, I am proud of my children. I am happy that they are creative and enjoy simple things as well. I was not a creative child, and in fact, I had never done what they are doing now when I was young. I feel like I am always experiencing my second time childhood.

I used to use my imagination when a child. Had my broomstick for a horse and such.

That's really good. It's always good that we can just use any simple things and turn into something magical. My children have always been "sailing" at home in the boxes or big containers. They can just turn anything into their toys. I was not a creative child, or I didn't do much of that when I was a child. My brother and I did use long rulers that my mom used for tailoring as swords.

I think it's good for kids to be creative. You don't see much of it anymore with so many kids playing video games.

Yes, I think it's good for kids to do things with their hands. I can understand those video games are really attractive and addictive as well, as I used to like playing games too. Once I am into it, it takes me awhile to pull out from the game. This is one of the reasons I do not allow my children to play video games now, as they should play more with their hands, and in the nature as well, but not in the virtual world.

@kaka135 I couldn't agree with you more. My grandkids are really into video games and don't spend enough time using their creativity and imagination or spend time outside.

It is much better if your children are creative and can come up with their own toys. I think all kids - and cats! - like cardboard boxes.

Yes, it helps to save me money and save the resources for the world as well (as reusing the stuffs, and buying less toys). Yes, we used to let a kitten play with the cardboard box, she liked it so much. I didn't know cats like cardboard boxes.
