Sharing With a Three Year Old

Our three year old granddaughter has been having a vacation with Grandma and Grandpa for the last nine day. She was quite sick with a cold the first two days and now just has the sniffles. Her energy is unflagging. Her reasoning convoluted and entertaining. She is a great negotiator, who has the ability to capitulate when she sees the advantage. She has been dragged hither and yon as we have taken Opa (her great grandfather) to appointment after appointment. She has missed naps, has thrown the odd hissy fit, but in general been one loveable, huggy, kiss you, little girl. There is one thing she sometimes has trouble with. That is sharing. She is used to being number one. She has had no problem sharing her cold. My nose is streaming as I sneeze and cough my way through the day. Tomorrow, she goes home with her mommy and daddy. The house will be neat (no toys or books spread throughout the house) and it will be quiet. We will miss her early morning chatter and her constant questions.p

We have no choice but to deal with it. I'm drinking lots of water and hoping that a good nights sleep will change things by tomorrow morning.

@Morleyhunt That is very true. My brother is always the one who gets really sick. My granddaughter is 5 and she has started bringing home everything that her classmates get sick with. I remember this from when my kids were young and it will probably go on for another few years until her resistance is built up.

@simone10 this morning I am feeling quite a bit better. I've only used three tissues since 5:30 instead of half a box.

I know that you will miss her the second after she leaves your house, but she left you a gift... the cold.

Yeah, I know how that feels. In fact we have a cute little girl at our house too, my uncles's daughter. We miss here when she goes to the aunt's house. Then the house becomes kind of sleepy with the quietness. Hope you get well soon.

Thanks. We will miss her. The cold, it would be nice if it left with her.

It is always difficult when kids leave our houses. The house becomes unusually quiet and it can be very odd the first couple of days after they have left. Hope she will back soon with her questions.

She will be back tomorrow when I pick her up from daycare. She won't be spending the night though.
