Snow, Sleet, and Rain - Oh My!

I woke up this morning to the gentle sound of rain on the roof.
Okay, I actually woke up to the feeling of 20 pounds of miniature Schnauzer landing on the bed and laying down on my chest to let me know it was Pee O'Clock. Then I heard the sound of rain on the roof.
When I got downstairs to let the dogs out for their morning business, it was raining and the temperature, according to the thermometer on the back porch was 38(F). The rain was light but steady and there was a slight breeze. While the dogs did their business I logged in and responded to comments here on the site.
Ginger and Ace did not take long to accomplish their morning duties. I let them in, fed them, checked the weather outside, and noted it was still just raining. In the short time it took me to get back upstairs and back into bed, that all changed.
I knew it had changed because the sound on the roof was no longer the gentle sound of rain. The sound was now the staccato tapping of sleet. Oh yes, I am very familiar with that sound. While not as gentle as the sound of rain, it did lull me back to sleep.
My missus woke me up an hour later to ask if we were going to go to church this morning. Then she heard the sleet. I told her I would have to see, now that the Sun was up, whether the weather had taken much of a turn for the worse.
Our back porch, when I looked, was beginning to show a covering of snow and sleet. The precipitation by then was consisting of all three forms. The only thing missing was hail. The temperature had not dropped, nor had it risen, and the Weather Channel reported the wind chill to be in the twenties.
I am about to embark on a trip to the end of the driveway to retrieve the Sunday paper. At that time I will judge the road conditions and we will decide if we are going to venture forth today or stay snug at home. Should I return safely from this treacherous venture, I will update you on the status of travel in Post Script.
Fair the well, today, my friends. I go forth into the elements.
Snow and sleet and rain - Oh My!
P.S. The roads are fine and it really doesn't feel that cold out. Off we go!

I tried to convince my wife we should, but she played the friend in need card. A young lady who works at our favorite restaurant has grown to be like a favorite niece to us and my wife mentioned in an off-hand way that with the weather not many people might go out to eat and B might not have many customers and, after all, she is paying her way through college. So out we went.

We have had snow but no rain in a while. Glad you were able to navigate the streets on your way to church. It is good your dog lets you know it is time for them to go out, mine lets me know by coming in and licking my hand or making a grrrr noise.

Our weather has been unpredictable; right now the sun is out and the birds are chirping but I know - for a fact - that it is super cold out. Those birds are screwing with me these days, probably because I switched the bird food I put in their feeders LOL

I simply like to read what you guys go through in this weather as all this is 'news' to me. Glad you did find some reprieve to help you go to church.

bad weather can ruin any good mood when you wake up and understand that if your life has been turned upside down.
But sometimes there are those moments with nature and the timing could not overcome.
Stay warm and beware.
Have a nice day!

The weather got worse while we were out. More sleet and falling temperatures. The Weather Channel says it should be warming up through the rest of the afternoon. I'm worried about what it will be like tomorrow morning with the roads this wet and freezing overnight temperatures.

OK. I have to get up now and look outside. I just hope the cat is in. I can hear a door banging, so my guess is it is all kicking off here too. At least it is not 6.am yet.
