Nail Caps A Cruel Alternative To Declawing

Cats claws are meant to retract. Unlike a dog, they do not rely on their claws for balance and can get along just fine without claws as long as they are strictly indoor cats. A popular alternative to declawing are nail caps. They sound great on the surface. No surgery, cheap and fairly easy to apply but let's look at a reality. During the time the caps are on the cat is unable to retract their claws. Imagine holding your fingers rigid, unable to bend them for nine weeks and the pain you would endure once you could move them again. Then to have to do it again for another nine weeks. If you're set against declawing your cat that's fine but only trim their claws and do not use nail caps.

declawing cats is seen as animal abuse so is illegal here.

I knew it was illegal there and I believe (if I remember correctly) docking a Doberman's ears and tail are also illegal.

@irishidid yes, you can't do anything like that...you'd get into pretty bad trouble with a hefty fine as the least of the punishment.

@Mike197602 I've seen a dog after it has had that done. Not pretty at all.

Either method is absolutely appalling @irishidid . IF God didn't want cats to have claws for a purpose, he wouldn't have made them.
