My son and his classmates were assigned to make something to bring to school to hold their valentines they receive. It needs to be something that is recycled or reused etc.
I went through a bunch of ideas on pinterest and showed him all the different kind of things we could make. He chose a box made to look like a minecraft creeper character.
I started working on it last night.I cut a hole in the top so the valentines could be dropped down in. I took a ruler and drew lines on all sides of the box then used different paints to fill the squares in. Today I went over it all again and gave it a second coat of paint as well as a face.
I thought it turned out really cute. My son loves it!

Thank you. I thought it turned out pretty good as well. It really wasn't that hard to paint squares though haha. My son isn't going to school today so I took this up to the school to drop it off to his teacher and I completely forgot as I was going into the school that I was still in my pajama bottoms. I was so embarrassed.

@yukimori lol I never forget them when I go out in public so this was a first and really embarrassing to me. My son brought home his box of Valentine's from school yesterday. He got a bunch of candy but most was red dye in it so he couldn't eat that. I gave it to my little nephew today. He enjoyed opening all the cards and seeing who they were from. I know he got a new pencil and two plush animals as well.

As long as it doesn't explode when someone approaches it to drop a card in, you're good!
Seriously, though, looks great! I wish my kid's teacher had given us the option of doing something similar. She just sent back these (really, really awful) boxes with instructions to decorate them. I still can't figure out if it's two trays or a box that's supposed to have a lid and a bottom.

Aww that is too bad that your child's teacher didn't come up with something more fun for them. When you get it all figured out be sure to come back to my post and post a picture of the finished project. I love to see the crafts people make. I was at a thrift shop yesterday and saw this a neat Christmas one. It was the door to a kitchen cupboard. It had a hook in the top center and Christmas garland across the top. It would be simple to make and looked pretty. I would hang a stocking from the hook or a picture.

@shaggin Unfortunately, it's not going to get finished... they did their Valentine's exchange yesterday. Kid forgot to tell me that they have a four-day weekend this time around...
That sounds like a pretty neat find! I was going to go thrifting this morning, but I went to Costco after work and that totally left me burned out on dealing with people today. Maybe tomorrow...

@yukimori We had a four day weekend here as well. It actually wound up being a 5 day weekend though because yesterday school was cancelled due to snow. The kids were all really excited about that. Today I thought I was going to have to babysit but I am really glad I didn't have to because I have been working all day to clear out the computer room to turn it into a bedroom.

Thank you so much for your nice comment. My son did love it. Before I took it to the school I wrote his name on the top in black permanent marker. I am excited for when he comes home today to show me the valentines he got since he wasn't in school on Friday.
