Sometimes the Side Dish Steals the Limelight

I had a lovely lunch with two of my friends and both of them ordered beef burger with fries. I had fish and grilled vegetables.
I ended up trying some of their fries, dipping it in ketchup and boy were they better than my fish.
They'e golden and crispy on the outside and their insides were soft, fluffy and had a strong potato flavor.
This is not the first time that a side dish has stolen the limelight. Off the top of my head, I've had stellar sides like mac and cheese, buttermilk biscuits and grilled corn cob with garlic butter and cheese.
Have you ever been in a similar situation where sides eclipsed the glory of mains?

You've got that right and I wound up ordering just the sides only when I visit.

This happens often, I always put a lot of thought in the side dishes I will be having with my meals.

We're alike! I blame it on the shops who make their side dishes so appealing and yummy.

@Ladypeace Just having meat would be boring. The sides make the meals.

I have my fries at the same time as my burger because I like to match their flavors. Are you saving the best for last with your fries?

dinner tonigh here a t Westminster Villa the homemade biscuits were so much nicer than the chicken dish that it was astonishing and the dessert white cake with frosting and the v eggie soup were better than the chopped pieces of tough chicken in a nasty tastng white sauce.

Oh Hatley dinner sounds great with biscuits, white cake and veg soup! It's a shame the chicken was badly executed.

LOL, I do that sometimes really. For example at BK, I just go for the onion rings and nuggets.

@Ladypeace indeed. I can think of things like those extra sauce on sizzlers or fried prawns on side for example. those things come in small quantity and are delicious.

@Ladypeace I agree. Now I have had sides that were wonderful whenever we have had family get togethers and everyone brings food. Some sides I could eat and nothing else.

No offense to mains they're really good but sometimes they do step aside when you find a good side.

You know, I like to put pickled vegetables in my lunch box and sometimes that small bite is my favorite. Also, olives.

That looks delicious. I completely agree, sometimes the side dish is the one that tastes the best. I had a burger the other day that was delicious.

I have, but it is often the vegetables that outshine the starches for me, such as my wife's home made slaw (cabbage with a variety of vegetables added), usually one of a kind since she does not write down the recipes.

Her coleslaw sounds real yummy! I've had salad sides at Japanese restaurants with a killer sesame and mentsuyu sauce, so good!

Indeed, the rocket salad, beet root and bacon kept falling off my friends' burgers.
