Helping Is Always Nice

One time, there was a huge transfer of manpower from one shop to another in the company that I am working for. With this come lots of paperwork and other timekeeping documents like IDs, badges, the works. I think it’s about a hundred or so. Anyway, I saw the clerks could use some help so I offered to help assemble the IDs and badges and they let me help them.
While working, one of the supervisors pulled me aside and said, “That’s not your job, you’re not a clerk!” I told her that I was just trying to help since I have some time to spare and I assured her that I have plenty time to finish my own work. She insisted that I should not do that nevertheless.
Seeing as I am a newcomer, I bit my tongue and just nodded and smiled at her, even though inside I was fuming! I want to tell her that I like helping people and I am going to do it again. It’s not about positions or titles; it’s about getting the job done as every oversight will reflect badly on all of us as a team. I am not sure how she was perceived here, but I am sure that I cannot count on her for a lot of things because she has a tendency to profile people and jobs and their worth. Hopefully she is just having a bad day. I would hate it if I will have somebody that I do not like in the workplace where I spend 8 hours of my time every day.
