One Wrong Move

My former highschool classmate used to work at a call center back in Manila. She is really good in what she does, and the last I heard she has been promoted to a senior position. Unfortunately, there has been some issues with compensation and benefits and how she has been passed up for another opportunity that she decided to take a hard long look at her future in that industry. She chanced upon in a forum where most members have an online job, and they were able to live off of it. Since her technical skills pretty much match those manpower being demanded, she decided to sign up and start working part-time as an online worker. When push comes to shove at her work, she decided to quit her full-time job at the call center, and accepted a client’s offer for her to work full-time for them. She is being offered the same basic pay minus the benefits of course (since the client is based overseas). From then on, she would juggle 2 or 3 other contract jobs online together with her main full-time online job. She has become so busy that she even enlisted the help of her husband, so now they are both full-time online workers. Her husband is someone who cannot hold a job for long, as she thinks he is still searching for himself. His passion is music, but unfortunately he cannot have that break that will enable him to earn from it. It was good for the time being – all their expenses were paid for by their online job, and they even saved enough money for downpayment of a new house. Then one fateful day, their main client decided to pull the plug on the project and they lost their main income. They still have their other side jobs, but they are not earning as much as before. And when the side contracts are done, they are out to look for something again to tide them over until they receive a full-time job again. It happened at a very inconvenient time as they now have a mortgage, and car payments to boot. And without full-time, local employment, they cannot qualify for loans, not even credit cards. I know that she is trying hard, and she somehow regrets quitting her local employment without maximizing the benefits that it offers, like health insurance and in-house loan. She admitted that she let her feelings decide about their future and now, she wishes that she can take it all back. Unfortunately, competition is stiff in the call center industry and she cannot get a job that is of the same level as when she decided to resign. I offered some help, because I know she is the type of person whom you can trust and will not ruin herself and honor over money, but she gently refuses. To add to their financial dilemma, her husband started cheating on her too. I totally feel for her, as I have been in that marital situation before. I let her know that the offer for help still stands, and that she will always be in my prayers. For other mylotters who know of some online employment for full-time, please send me a message or two. I would like to pass this on to her. Who knows, this might help.

There are a number of online English schools that are hiring homebased English teachers. The pay is good and the schedule is very flexible.
