Vince belongs to a Facebook group called Cr*p Bird Photography. People put up really bad bird photos then all the members have a lot of fun telling the photographer how bad it is. So now, as well as trying to take 'nice' photos, Vince is trying to take bad ones of birds. Here is one he took this morning of two birds just after they'd had a bath.
These are New Holland honey-eaters. My mother called them 'black-and-yellow frauds' because they ate the fruit on her trees. They are found throughout southern Australia. It was one of the first Australian birds to be scientifically described. It is around 18cm (7 inches) long and mainly black with yellow margins on the wing and tail feathers. The beak is long and slender and the tongue can protrude well beyond the end of the beak allowing them to suck up nectar from deep within a flower.

They have a marvellous time saying things like 'it takes a lot of talent to be this bad'. etc. :)

I would not call this a bad picture. These birds have just had a bath and soon they will fly away to preen their feathers looking as good as new.

I haven't seen them before and they are very fluffy or is that from their bath. I think we should have a challenge, you reminded I tried to take a gull as it flew by our deck while looking into the sun. I only got half of him but it might be a good shot, I need to download my photos to my computer.

I had to enlarge the photo to understand the title. But it does fit.

@JudyEv I'll switch over once the bugs are mostly eliminated. I have enough going on right now that I do not enjoy without having to learn a new format here too.

For some reason if you catch them all fluffed up they do look a bit crabby regardless of the species.

They have some really funny comments such as - 'I think you could do worse than that if you tried - or maybe you couldn't' or 'that's the worst bird photo I've ever seen, I'm in awe of your talent'. Vince is forever reading me out bits and pieces.

Your mom's a darling for giving them that nick name. I've never seen them before, but they look rather sneaky and unkempt from here. Your husband and his fb group have a good sense of humor for roasting those bird pictures.

It's cool to find out about a bird that we don't have in our area. I think that picture is too good, though. He needs to get a much worse one, lol

At least the bird bath brings a few within shooting distance, so to speak.

@JudyEv at least you can tell they are birds. I have some that show just dark shadows in trees that are supposed to be birds. Oh, yes and one looking up at the tail end of a crow
in a tree.

One bird looks like he's either complaining about his bath or crooning about it. From your description they sound a lot like humming birds. Are they related?

Great idea for a Facebook page. I got kicked off of one where cyclists post pictures of their bikes leaning on stuff. I used a word rhyming with "gong" and was booted off within 20 minutes.
