Crying Wallet

My odometer as it hit 1,000 kilometers

An hour ago I went to the Mitsubishi car dealership where I got my Mirage last December 29. It is due for 1,000 kilometers (600 miles) checkup. The labor is free up to 5,000 kilometers. I was expecting that the oil and other materials will cost only PhP1,900 (about US $45). As the man in the counter is processing the job order, the cost free of labor totalled to PhP4,400 (almost US $100). Now my wallet is crying but I have no choice I need to have it serviced in the dealership for the warranty not to be void. Sigh. I went home first and will go back after a couple of hours. Did you have a similar experience? An unexpected expense?

With the car we always have this kind of experience, a bill much higher than expected.

@nottoooldtowrite Here is not hot, but it is cold. In winter it is unpleasant to wait for a bus several minutes when the temperature is several degrees below zero.

So true. The price we have to pay for convenience. Too hot here this afternoon and if I were commuting I would be irritable and sweaty. Eew not a good combination.

It's really expensive if you bring it to what we call here a " casa ", if there is one consolation all the parts they use there are all original. Years ago I also bought a Mitsubishi in Citimotors and the same thing happened to me, I hate it when I could do the flushing and oil and filter change my self at so much less the cost, yes I agree with you, your wallet will really cry

@nottoooldtowrite very true, it's not a pleasant feeling, it's like being hostaged or having your hands tied while they do it for you but at the back of you mind you know that you can easily do what they are doing, then here comes the bill!

@louievill in the end it is like paying for the warranty. But hat is how it goes. Good thing service is okay anyway and the performnce of the car is good. Ecoboost is the best! Very little gas consumption.

But warranty will be void if it won't be serviced in the dealership. Sigh. I better prepare tissues to wipe my wallet's tears.

Anything to do with cars seems to be so expensive. Sorry you have to pay that much.

True. Now I have to earn more for the expensive maintenance. Lol

That certainly sounds more expensive there than what we pay here for our routine oil/filter changes

Sure is. But I do not often use it so the change oil ec would not be frequent too.

Yes, a few times with an old car I have- but we are still keeping it and it's free but things go wrong every once and awhile. We have a regular new car and this old one- but the old one is free except for these unexpected expenses so I'll miss it. haha!

Lol I hope the unexpected is not frequent though. Just take a picture of the old car and hang it on the wall so that you will look at it when you miss it

@nottoooldtowrite That old car has been good to us and I love it- And really fixing it a few times doesn't even come close to having the payments for a new one....I may just hang a picture up- ha!

Did you ask them why it cost so much? Is there anything that needs not change immediately? I think next time you just have to ask for a breakdown of the price, and challenge each item.

There is a breakdown.

I thought it was free labor though since your car is under 5,000 kilometers?

@nottoooldtowrite Oohhh! Darn ~ that is expensive. For such a new car - what do they have to do?? It is different where you live and where I live - but my new car I bought, they provide servicing free for 3 years or 36000 miles I believe.

Yes, the labor is free (until 5,000 kilometers) but the oil and other materials are not.

Yes, it's really true that our wallet cries when we go to the car dealership for the maintenance but it is really needed for our car, to maintain the good quality of it.

That is a shame but it is important to keep the warranty safe. Our bus is in for repairs and I hate to think what that will cost.

I think that would even be more expensive because it is a bigger unit. Well, I am sure 5,000 kilometers would be far from now. It is almost two months before I reached 1,000 kilometers anyway. I seldom use it.

@Lucky15 true. I was expecting less than half of it. Oh well. Now I know better.

I don't understand--if it supposed to be free, why do you have to pay?

The labor is free but the materials - oil, filters, aircon cleaner, etc. are not.

@AliCanary true. So pricey. If there is any consolation, te car is performing well and consumes only little fuel.
