I was rear-ended...

8 I had a rather unusual morning on my way to work today. I took the same route, traffic was normal, and the weather was nice - but on one of the yield or give way traffic sign I got hit from behind by another car. The picture is of the car that hit me. The driver came out to me as soon as it happened, and guess what... he's a police officer! Yeah, he was driving an unmarked police car and somehow he didn't expect me to stop while yielding for the vehicles with the right of way to proceed. He was very apologetic and made sure I was not physically hurt. Another police car with two officers stopped at the scene not long after to take report of the incident. They had me took a breathalyzer test as part of the procedure; and yes, they made their fellow officer (the driver of the car that hit me) took the test too! So there I was all by myself surrounded by three police hunks. They were all very nice and really professional, but passer by must had been wondering what have I done to be stopped by police on the street. I was not at fault and I had everything in place (license, registration, insurance, and such) so I was not too worried. And I'm confident the driver who hit my car will be very responsible. Still, I guess having an accident would throw my routine off and there will always be a degree of hassle to go through even though it was a police car itself that did the fender-bender...

@enlightenedpsych2 Yes, thank you... I did feel some tightening on the back of my neck yesterday or day 2 after the accident. But it wasn't too bad and no worse than the pain when we slept in the wrong position or something.

It's amusing that they would breathalyse you, but I know it's standard procedure. I bet that policeman gets a ribbing from his mates. Glad no-one was hurt.

Yeah, they were mostly concern if I was hurt at first as that would make the situation a lot more complicated and much less amusing...

Glad you were not injured but bet you were surprised that he was a police officer. Now you will probably have to rent a vehicle to go to work but his insurance should pay for that.

@sishy7 You are lucky that you don't have to rent a car to drive while yours is being repaired.

Are you okay? I hope that your car did not suffer a big damage. It is incredible that you also had to pass the test, as you were not the one who caused the accident.

This is both fummy and terrible at the same time. You are ok, I trust? And your car? Was it badly damaged? Were yuo able to drive away and continue your journey wirh it? Did the police office pass the test? What was he doing driving so close to you in the first place and was he using his phone at the time he banged into you?

I was driving my Honda so yeah, it was at least as badly damaged as his if not worse because police Holdens as the one he was driving were quite powerful cars. They took care of my car straight away - it's already at the repairer today. And yeah, because it was a police car, the police dept is having a full investigation of why he hit my car, etc...

@sishy7 At what point did you realise that it was a police officer who had hiy you? I hope you said nothing that could be held against you befor you knew

@mysdianait I knew right away, as soon as he stepped out of his car seconds after he hit me. His car was unmarked, but he wasn't an undercover cop in plain clothing - he had his full uniform on... (I love men in uniform and he's rather good looking too)

@sishy7 I can imagine. There are a few things that need to be done when these things happen, to say the least.

@dodo19 it doesn't matter that I'm not at fault, there're still police station to attend, statements to sign, appointments to make etc, etc, etc, related to the accident...

The car in the rear is always at fault in this situation cause he has the brakes and the decision how much distance he has to keep in order to make a quick reaction

Yup, I did think for a second before the accident that he looked a bit too close to me from what I can see with my rear view mirror...

What?!! You had to take a breathalyzer? You weren't driving in a matter that would require one as you were obeying the law. That's ridiculous! But I'm glad you both passed, lol. I hope your car isn't damaged badly and I hope you don't have any aches. But regardless you should visit the doctor too!

Yeah, that's just part of the standard procedure for any crash, I guess... My car needs a lot of work and it will be at the repairer for a while. The aches weren't too bad so I really didn't feel the need to see a doctor.
