Distress Call

At 9:00 PM, there was a clear distressed sound coming from Fifi. It repeated a second time. Then yet another time.
She was in the living room with my sister. I was at the back of the house with my daughter and granddaughter.
When I heard the frantic cry a fourth time I dropped everything and ran.
In the living room she had snagged an afghan with her toenail. She could not get free. She had dragged the afghan around the room, trying to free herself.
When I got hold of the dog, I tried to work the toenail out of the afghan, to no avail. Finally in desperation, I used a scissors to cut the yarn, freeing poor Fifi from the trap. She retreated to our bed, to lick her wounds.
Peace had been restored. Life moved on. I repaired the cut thread.
Fifi won't come into the living room.

@Morleyhunt I am glad, she was not traumatized by the experience it seems.

She surprised us all this morning. She curled up on the sofa next to my sister, back in the living room. She doesn't seem any the worse for her short trauma.

The distressed noises she made. The crying Yelp was clearly a distress call. She is okay, and seems to be fine.

She would have preferred a few minutes earlier.

She was so upset at the time. Once she was free she curled up on my bed, in a tight little ball and did not move.

She was one very unhappy dog while she was entangled. She dragged that afghan back and forth, crying all the while until we could free her toenail.

That awful afghan might capture her again. Poor Fifi.

What a cute dog. :) My dog rolls around on the afghan on my mother's bed quite a bit, completely "messing it up" and sometimes knocking it all the way off onto the floor. I'm glad Fifi was okay.

She's too old to be really playful. The afghan has earned a new respect.

She has since made a full recovery. She is not afraid to go onto the sofa where the afghan is resting. She isn't laying on the afghan thou, so I'm guessing she doesn't entirely trust it not to attack again.

She was trying to help and couldn't get the afghan loose. I finally cut the yarn....she handed me the scissors after I told her where to find them.

Poor little Fifi! Too bad you had to cut the yarn.

Cutting the yarn was the safest option T that point. I could not work it loose, even when I had released the tension on the yarn. Cutting it shortened her distress, and it only took me a few minutes to repair the pull.

She surprised us by coming to the living room first thing in the morning. She has no injuries.

I feel sorry for the dog, it must be frightening when you are trapped.

She was in a total panic mode. Holding her still to free her was difficult. It's a good thing she trusts me or I would never have been able to free her.
