Treble and Bass Clef Cuff-Links

Many folk here do some incredible craft work. One of my mother's hobbies was china painting and I thought I'd share a photo of a pair of cuff-links she painted for my husband. He played drums in a dance band at the time in a band called the Evergreens so Mum painted treble and bass clefs on a greenish background. He wore the cuff-links quite often then they languished in a little box. We've now passed them on to our musician son who asked if he could have them. It is nice to think they will be worn again - and worn with love. It is good to pass things on to family members and to know they are being used rather than hiding them away in a drawer. Have you had a treasured item passed down to you? Care to share?

@JudyEv It's made in gold, as they did many years ago, it looks nice even if it is useless as a watch.

It is special to have these things I think. We have a few bits and pieces which we treasure. Do you wear the wrist watch at all?

@LadyDuck Once you mentioned it stopping like it does, I remembered you writing about it. Isn't that interesting? I'm glad you're able to wear it even if it is only as a bracelet.

What a beautiful art. Did she do the inlay as well Judy? So nice to pass them on to your son.

She would have bought the frames and probably the inner part was plain white porcelain.

Those are just lovely Judy. I once won a prize stamped with the name of the company which happens to be my family name. The prize was a ladies and gent's watch each. I passed these onto my sister who still bears the name and my brother but I have not seen or heard of them since. I often wonder about them.

@JudyEv i'm thinking they were reasonably expensive and having the name on them made them a keepsake as far as I'm concerned.

That was a bit of coincidence. Like you, I wonder what happened to them?

@Jessicalynnt That's true, they would. I have a brooch with a pink rose painted on it that Mum made. It can also be hung from a chain.

@crazyhorseladycx That would be very interesting. We sometimes watch 'Antique Roadshow'. It's an English programme but the people are very knowledgeable about all sorts of antiques.

I have seen a few cuff links of this nature before. A judge I knew had a pair with a gavel on them.

It's nice when the cuff links reflect an interest of the person. Gavels would suit a judge beautifully.

I can imagine how you would enjoy wearing your grandmother's earrings. I have a ring of my great grandmother but it is so small I can only wear it on my little finger.

Cuff-links aren't used much but being in a jazz band I think Damian wears dress shirts for weddings and big functions so he probably gets a bit of use from them.

@JudyEv I was upset, but my mother and I went shopping and I bought two fur coats. I'm ashamed to admit it, but they did keep me warm.

Oh, no!!! Not your mother's fur coat. And the dog probably wondered what all the fuss was about. I presume you were upset even if you didn't actually punish the dog.

This is so beautiful and meaningful. Grandma's hand painted cuff-links to Vince and now to your son. He must be very fond of grandma, Vince and you to have asked to have them. My mom keeps a jewelry box and plans to pass it down to me in future.

That's really a nice story to tell. My uncle gave me a crucifix pendant when I was in high school days and until now, I still have it. He said, it will protect me from harm.
