Diets and Hammocks and Snoring.

You know that you need to diet,
You try so hard to apply it,
But your loving spouse
Brings cake to the house
Oh sheesh - you just have to try it.
I found out the hard way, it's true,
That hammocks are not made for two,
You may have a giggle
But if you dare wriggle,
A fall is just bound to ensue.
Whenever Bob slept he would snore,
His wife found this hard to endure,
When she couldn't nap
She gave him a slap,
Then pushed him out on the floor.
Do you fancy trying to do a limerick yourself? Go on - have a go.
Photo taken in my garden. Just trying to brighten up the day.

I love the ones that you write,
But mine would sure be a fright.
They're too hard for me,
I would rather write free.
Or else get stuck here all night.

This is a 'Dimerick'. It's a 'blind' limerick because it scans but pointedly doesn't rhyme!
I'm loving the look of your garden
So florid it looks like a riot
The flowers on the fence
Seem to be in a race
I'd bet on the third to get over!

@jaboUK Oh no! Doggerel is something which grits its teeth trying to rhyme (usually in couplets) but completely forgets how big its boots are when it comes to scanning! It's musical companion would, I suppose, be Caterwaul!
A dreadful animal is the Doggerel
It's metre is more than just a bellyful
Its rhymes are so trite
But it tries with all its might
To scan but is no better than a Catewrwaul

@Owlwings 'Dimerick' is a new one on me. I would have called something that scans but doesn't rhyme 'doggerel'. I live and learn, and thank you for entering into the spirit of things with this excellent contribution.
I hadn't noticed that my flowers seem to be trying to climb over the fence, and yes, number three seems to be winning!

Limericks were always fun to teach students, so simple.

@jaboUK Instead of the cake in #1, it was Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. I jumped from 130 pounds to 150 pounds in just 2 months. I couldn't believe it. You can bet your sweet bippy that I literally run past the chocolate aisle now, even though I can hear them calling me, "Please, come buy me."

@MarshaMusselman We spent five months overseas last year and saw some wonderful gardens which sometimes made us think we'd like to plant flowers at home in Western Australia.

I fear if I tried any diet
I would give every one a fright
I am all skin and bones
With dieting it too would be gone
There wouldn't be any skeleton left in sight
Every one enjoy bike rides
Speeding and jumping past high tides
But there are a few
Whose balance is all screwed
They have vast experience with sore behinds
He he.... I tried...

@Daljinder Thank you - these are very creditable efforts. You've got good subjects, you just need to get the rhythm right - Lines 1,2 and 5 the same length as each other and rhyming, lines 3 and 4 the same but shorter

@jaboUK I still get a bit stuck on the length, especially when I really want to say something, you run out of room eventually.

Actually any suggestions are welcomed. There is always scope for learning and improving yourself...

Our hammock is shared by my husband the dog. I am not a fan of hammocks, I know I'd fall on my butt.

@AbbyGreenhill I should imagine that a dog in a hammock could cause havoc! I love to lie in a hammock, but on my own

@crazyhorseladycx I've got a marvellous mental picture of you and your pup trying to stay in a hammock
.!
My garden doesn't look like that at the moment, but I like posting flower pictures in the winter. A taste of things to come.
