Adventures with Panhandlers #2

In Modesto, California, there is an enterprising young man that has perfected the fine art of panhandling.
Instead of standing with a sign all day, this forward-thinking gent (FYI, the following behavior could potentially land you in jail) hides in the Downtown Modesto parking garage. When someone exits their vehicle, he makes his move, and catches his prey in the city's version of town square, where he always ask's for enough to purchase a Jack in the Box taco (remember, he's thinking forward about getting a taco.)
I lived in Modesto for four months, and he hit me up three times for taco money. And I actually did see him once in a Jack in the Box ordering a couple taco's, so he must've chased down enough money that day.
And then he panhandled me, in the Jack in the Box, asking for enough to get a taco.
This happened about seven years ago. I assume that he's still at it. That, or he harassed the wrong guy, and panhandled himself into an early grave at worst, the emergency room at best.

I find such in your face panhandling just short of mugging - it is very intimidating

In Colorado Springs, you can call the cops on aggressive panhandling. Not sure about other places. Your right, it is intimidating.

Yep, it's pretty much the same.

I think the majority of the people holding a sign at an intersection are frauds. An investigative reporter in Denver followed some of them home one night. They lived in a nicer house than I did.
