Good news for us chocoholics! A new study is out, expounding the benefits of eating chocolate. There have been plenty of news reports, over the years, linking a regular nibble of chocolate with just about everything from mental well being to weight loss and combating diabetes; not forgetting living longer. There are even claims of its effectiveness in protecting against dementia. This new study shows that flavonoids contained in cocoa increase working memory, as well as information and cognitive processing in the brain, along with higher alertness levels. Cocoa makes up between 7-15% of milk chocolate, while dark chocolate can contain between 30-90%. With around 100mg of flavonoids per 100g of cocoa, dark chocolate seems the best bet for a beneficial nibble. It is probably a good idea to enjoy chocolate without so much sugar in it, despite the claims of its ability to handle diabetes. So, I guess it shows that a little of what you fancy does you good, just remember the watch word, moderation.

I love chocolate and it's hard to eat chocolate in moderation living in Switzerland, but I try. My favorite is dark chocolate, about 70% cocoa.
