Next Sunday, March 13th, at some ungodly hour like 2:00 am, Daylight Savings Time begins! Yeah....finally we will have daylight later in the evening. I can hardly wait.
I know - many people don't like DST and couldn't care less. Us warm weather lovers can't wait to be outside in the evening with the sun still shinning and warming the air. Instead of being cooped up inside all evening, we can be outside enjoying Mother Nature and all she has to offer.
So I will push my clocks forward one hour next Saturday evening and look forward to daylight well into the 8 pm hour the next day!

It's still fairly light here at 7 now. We're only a few miles from the central time zone.

@AbbyGreenhill You cannot create more daylight hours because the length of day will be the same with or without changing the clocks. The immediate extension of one hour in the evening will also result in daylight beginning one hour later in the morning.

@AbbyGreenhill Those figures actually prove my point. The days gradually become longer as we go further into summer, which means every day the Sun rises a few minutes earlier and sets a few minutes later.
The two dates that you mention are 6 weeks apart, yet the Sun is rising 1 minute later. If you did not alter the clock it would rise one hour earlier.

@Asylum
Information from a chart - for my town -
today March 5th - sun rise 7:01 am - sun sets at 6:38 pm
April 17 - the sun will rise at 7:02 am and set at 8:14 pm
Mid June sun rises 6:38 and sets almost 9 pm
Sounds like more daylight hours to me.

I like it when the clocks go back, and forward.... although the benefits are less noticable in spain ... as it stays quite light in the afternoon during winter anyway.... it was much more noticeable in England...., where it gets dark quite early in the height of winter....

I can't wait because it means my husband will go sit outside and watch the deer and I have peace and quiet inside!

@AbbyGreenhill I do. I think it is a heinous state of affairs - they "borrow" the hour, and you get no interest on the loan in October...

Thanks for telling this, though it doesn't really matter to me, it helps me to remember to "re-calculate" the time difference between my country and US or other countries.
When I heard about daylight saving, it always reminds me of an incident happened to my friend. We do not have daylight saving change here, so when we studied in Australia, we experienced that for the first time. It just happened it was in the school holiday, and we went to Sydney. We read the notice from the hotel. My friend and her boyfriend didn't read the notice, and they were rushing to take a flight to another city. Because they didn't know the time changed on the day, so they missed the flight. Well, it's just a lesson to me that we really need to learn more about the country or culture when we go there.

That's right, it might not be happening where you live but travelers need to pay attention.

I am so glad it will get darker much later. I HATE changing the clocks every year, wish they would stop this already.

We just set the clocks when we go to bed. Then all is well the next day. I don't mind it after doing it for so many years.

I leave one clock the right time and change all the rest Sat. evening. I don't mind it either, it's part of life.

Thank you for sharing this information. I always could use an extra hour of daylight even though I will lose one hour of sleep.
