Homeless man who lost it all

Philippines
March 6, 2016 4:32am CST
Couple of years ago, there was this documentary news done by a local network. Then this homeless man was interviewed, asked about his life. I was shocked that this guy used to be from a middle class but rich family. But instead of being a good son, he kept hanging out with his friends all night not caring for his academic studies. Until one day his parents died, things went bad from losing all of their money and home. Now a days, walking the streets asking alms like every one else. I don't remember all the details, but his story hit me hard. Reminds me how blessed I am with a home and a family business to run. I just wonder were this person now, I can't even find in my research about this interview.

That's a sad story. Unfortunately, some people take things for granted. I am lucky that I have a home and a family. I may not be rich, but I have exactly what I need, which is the important thing.

@Letranknight2015 it's very true. As much as I may like to have a little more income, I still wouldn't trade what I have.

Yes, we may not be rich but we have a home and a family which is really something important @dodo19 some people are rich and have everything but never happy with what they have because they take it for granted.

It's so sad that there are such a lot of people in this position, some through no fault of their own. That doesn't seem to be the case with the one you are talking about - he brought it upon himself.

He did brought it upon himself, he wasted all of his parents hardwork @jaboUK and in the end he lost everything. I feel sad for the parents, watching their kid down below in the streets asking for alms.

Some people are to dependent on their family then when a tradegy happens they don't know how to handle it or what to do and if there is money involved they can go through it like there is no tomorrow. It is to bad he is out on the street but he could go and see if he can find some help and perhaps a job to pull himself back up.

Hello @Marcyaz sometimes I feel this could be my fate even though I don't hang out and do go party at night. But I do my best to be responsible as far as I can go. But this person really just didn't care until it was too late. I feel so bad for him now he's just nothing and walking endlessly on the streets.

I think I've seen this one before. When I saw it, it made me pursue more with my studies. At least whatever happens, I can have a job to support me. Good thing I did that before I lost both my parents.

Hello @cherriefic , Good for you at least this hit you before they passed on. I am probably lucky to still have parents and embarrassing to a fact that I didn't have a permanent job. But with the family business at least I can be somewhat responsible to some degree in keeping the tenants updated and in line.

yeah that's why I have always encouraged my children to study and I have always told them that education is their ultimate inheritance from me. one day i'll pass on, I only hope that I have prepared them enough for their lives ahead.

Hello @yalul070 I do hope they take your advices seriously and focus on their studies. Though I was not that intelligent or academically motivated, I did my part and the best i could to graduate. Hard to believe that it's been eleven years since I graduated college, time flies by. At least I've finished my education.

I think gratitude is something we really should learn. We are all very blessed with what we have and who we are.

I think his parents are rolling in their grave to know that the son loses everything that they have left behind. They might as well give everything to charities. At least the money is used to help more people, rather than spent by that useless son.

Just like the homily yesterday , about the prodigal son . That's why we should know how to manage our finances , lest when time comes , we will be left with nothing . Money no matter how plenty you have them , will be depleted if you don't know where to spend it . It should always be spent wisely .

It is good to be so grateful Letran and to know these stories of the less fortunate, even if it happened because of ill choices.

Hello @TiarasOceanView It was his ill choice that led him to his fate. what is sad now is that even to this day and age people here tend to make the same mistake he did, would likely end up just like him.

I almost lost everything I owned and worked for so hard for many years . . that was 10 years ago when I was hooked to casino gambling! Thank God, I "woke up" before it was too late.

Good for you that you woke yourself up before it's too late. I used to be too addictive in the lottery, but after months of betting I decided to stop. But went on again but using only one set of numbers and not spending on it too much. @antonbunot

People take so many things for granted - relationships and security being few of them. Its so sad and hard hitting to hear of his plight. We should be grateful for our life and blessings and try to help others in whatever little way we can.

I don't think it was his intention to look for bad luck, he just chose not to be responsible and faced his consequences in the end. @miniam

That happens to a lot of rich sport athletes here in the US. I do not think they become homeless, but they loose all the fortunes they have made playing professional sports when they retire from them. Most of them do not know how to handle that kind of money and then go bankrupt. They usually survive off of their name alone.

That's a sad story. There are people who don't work and just remain dependent on others which may be harmful in long run. We should not always rely on our parent's property but should work hard in our lives to earn.

Hello @sjvg1976 Well, I thought of that a while, but when I realized how mom couldn't watch over the business that much, I decided to stick around and help. In fact, I just stop applying while the business is being made. If i can't take care of this property, how much more if I'm on my own.

Its sad how his life turned out. I think he has full of regrets now. But I do hope those people who knew him would help him out of poverty. It makes me wonder where are all his friends before?

Since he is on the streets I know that he regrets his life now and he's still probably on the streets now. I don't think they care about him, now that he doesn't have anymore money to spare. I bet some of them are on the streets or jail too. even if some one was able to turn things around, they probably won't help him. @dazzledlady
