MMMM yum.... one of my favourite things to do is to have a drink with my friends and share some tasty tapas .... and that's even more true when we have friends come and visit....
Tapas is a small snack that is served with drinks at spanish bars, and vary from straight forward olives, to salads, tuna, peppers and tortilla or frittata... there is a more lengthy explanation in the link at the bottom of the page...
Yesterday a friend we knew in England, came to see us....
He is on holiday in spain, and he came and spent the afternoon with us.
It was a lovely sunny day and we showed him round our little town..., which he enjoyed very much..., after we had walked each others legs off..., we sat down at our favourite bar / cafe and had a drink and some tapas...
There are ssssoooo many to choose from ... meat ones, fish based ones... vegetables.... my favorites are mushrooms in garlic olive oil .., albondigas, minced pork and herbs in a tomato sauce, chorizo sausage, and ensalada rusa ... which is a variety of vegetables cut up small, in a mayonnaise, some variations include tuna, and boiled eggs ... our bar has that type with the tuna and eggs .., and frittata, ... oohhhh the list goes on ... prawns in oil... and garlic.... any way....
You get different tapas on different days ... although there are one or two that are available daily as they are very popular..., yesterday as we sat down with our friend, I took him inside and showed him the display case with the available tapas in it... and to my surprise all our favourites were in there.... yyyeeyyyy ...
At our local, we ususally order three drinks, one of which has to be a beer or wine or alcoholic drink..., we usually get a cider, or a shandy which also counts... as most of the bars will bring you a small tapas (snack) , free with a round of drinks ... Quite often we will then buy a second tapas at three Euros for a racion.. which is a portion big enough to share ... and some bread comes with it....
Having selected our Tapas ... see the photo for this post... we sat down and enjoyed our food, and a good chat about how everyone is in England... it was a very pleasant afternoon... and nice to see him again and to catch up on the news of some of our other friends too....

I had a friend who lived in Spain for a few years and she was into tapas a lot. But then a big meal after - too much for me.

that's right..... @AbbyGreenhill it's too much for us too... but with there being three of us... we usually order something light... and don't eat till later .... and although the temptation is there to over indulge ... we usually only do it once a week ... although we will pop out for a coffee at other times during the week....

Sounds good. People really need to eat something so that the liquor doesn't affect them so severely.
