I've been doing this one kind "on the side." It's a 1960s Fisher 500C, a stereo receiver worth about $800. The cabinet was in pretty bad shape, with a bunch of missing corners and some deep scratches. It belongs to a fellow audiophile, and I told him I'd take it home and make it pretty.
I took my time with this one, replacing missing corners with walnut veneer I have here, and doing repeated "hot water treatments" to reduce scratches. Now, it's ready to home to its owner. All I have left to do right now is one pair of KLH 17s. I'd better put my listing back up on Craigslist, or I won't have anything to work on.

They sure made them to look good as pieces of furniture in those days! It looks as though you've made it something to be worthy of pride of place in the living room again.
Now I'm wondering about a mahogany keyboard with limewood keytops and maybe ebony inlaid letters and abalone detail on the spacebar. A wooden mouse would feel nice, too, and a nice simple wooden frame for the monitor.

@TheHorse There are some pretty nice ones here. I particularly like the old typewriter style keys (with a raised metal bezel) and the brass decorations at the corners. I think, though, that what I had in mind was more reminiscent of quality guitar workmanship (and maybe I meant rosewood rather than mahogany).

@Asylum It's satisfying, especially when I see how happy the owners are with what they'll be taking home. But my favorite part is when I'm "almost done": when I can see the beauty, but there's still a bit of work to do--like the two speakers that are almost done in the photo on my "Shelfie" post.

I can't imagine in 40 years or so someone bothering, or being able to, make a 2016 stereo type thing look good again.
We seem to have really become a throw away society rather than making things that can be fixed up which I think is a shame.

It's also incredible to me how good these older components sound compared to the modern stuff. We are a throw-away society. I guess that's good for the people who make and market things. Fisher could only make so much money off of something that would last 40 years and more.

@TheHorse yes, I think you're right...companies always encourage us to update to the next model as soon as it's out.
I think if things were made to last the companies would lose out compared to now.
Still a shame though.

Looks like you've done a great job as usual. Time to put out feelers for more work as you say - it would be dreadful to run out of speakers.
