When Summer Comes

For hotels this is the slow season and I've been enjoying my three days off a week although my paycheck has suffered a bit. There's still plenty for paying bills, buying food and the occasional free spending so we are in no way suffering.
On Thursday of this week there is a mandatory meeting of the entire staff to discuss the summer and how we can be more efficient. With all of us coming in the workload will be light and the plan is to have us all done by 1:30. Lunch is being provided and I'm hoping it isn't Pizza Hut. That seems to be the go to company provided choice.
They asked us to give some suggestions, comments, etc. for ideas on summer work. I put in a couple and all of them will be discussed at the meeting. Our summertime work efficiency definitely needs work on and I hope they take the suggestions seriously. Last summer we were working ridiculously long hours for a job that should only be 8 hours. On Labor day we worked 12 hours to give you some idea. That is just way too much and I'm too old to keep working those kind of hours.

I agree, I worked 12 hour night shift for years, I don't want it now, getting to how for that, way too long and no good to you.

I don't mind working overtime but 12 hours a day is too much.

@kevin1877uk The drive to work is not that bad but they are doing roadwork that probably won't be done until 2017 so it does hamper the traffic.

@irishidid Its way too long, do you have travel to work? When I worked where I did for 27 years I had 45 minutes travelling time from and to work, so a 12 hour day was more like 13.5 hours.

@irishidid No doubt they see it as quite an outlay.

Hard to say if they will but I'm hoping they will at least consider them.

Hope they don't increase your hours to 12, it's a very long day.
