AC/DC Tour Cancelled

I was so bummed to learn that the iconic rock n roll band AC/DC has had to cancel their next 10 shows for medical reasons. Their lead singer, Brian Johnson, has been advised by doctors to stop touring immediately or risk permanent hearing loss. It's unfortunate, as I had great seats to see the boys from down under at the show in Ft. Lauderdale, FL on Friday night. It was the second of the 10 shows that were cancelled. Even more unfortunate, I was going to take my daughter with me to experience her first rock n roll concert (she's already been to numerous country concerts). I wish Brian Johnson the best, and a speedy recovery. Not sure how one recovers from hearing loss (especially when you play in a rock n roll band), but if there is a way to recover, I hope he finds it!

Oh dear sorry to hear. They must all be getting on now. I would look to see them maybe one day.

They're definitely getting old, and it's starting to show. They've already lost one member to dementia (guitarist Malcolm Young), and now the singer to hearing loss. I can't imagine that these guys will be around that much longer at the rate they're going. Which is why I really wanted my daughter to see them. So someday she could tell her kids that she saw AC/DC live in concert!

@moffittjc That would be awesome her. I saw The Who back in 2007 and was wanting to see them last year for their 50th but never got round to it though. I saw Ozzy Osbourne about 6 years ago, he was awesome.

@kevin1877uk I was fortunate to get to see the Who back in the late 80's (or was it early 90's), and it was a great show! I've seen Ozzy two or three times over the years, and he always put on a good show.

It is amazing that AC/DC was still touring considering the youngest member is nearly 61 years old. I wish Brian Johnson the best but know hearing loss is nearly impossible to recover based on my own from my time in the Army.

@moffittjc Unless they can find someone to stand in for Brian, I don't see how they can continue the tour. It would be sad. The end of a legendary band.

@DWDavis I can't think off the top of my head who could possibly ever substitute for Brian Johnson. The guy has one of them "one of a kind" voices!

Yeah, as soon as I read that he was ordered to stop touring or face imminent permanent hearing loss, I knew he was done for good. So far, they've only cancelled 10 shows. but considering they are on a world tour, I think they are pretty much going to have to cancel all of them now.

So it was a short circuit for AC/DC.

He probably has a medical issue that needs to have quiet to heal. Rather like putting an arm in a sling, he cannot hear loud noises for awhile.

I'm wondering if it isn't something more permanent than just a few months rest. The band's website mentioned that they would reschedule the concerts at the end of the year, but Brian Johnson wouldn't be singing. They said any upcoming concerts that they schedule will include a guest vocalist.

@ElizabethWallace I think they should just call it quits and retire. It just wouldn't be the same without all the bandmates there.

@moffittjc This makes sense, since they would need time to bring the other guy up to speed. Too bad, but playing in front of loud speakers would have caused lots of damage.

oh man that sucks. I mean for the fans and more so for Brian. I've never really been a fan of them. Not that they aren't good or anything but just never liked them enough to listen to their songs.

Did you get a refund or your tickets on hold to make up date in the future. I could swear I saw ear plugs on Johnson when he was performing live.

Actually, he's had hearing problems for the last couple of years, so yes...he has been wearing hearing protection during the current tour. I guess it still wasn't enough. I have the option of getting a full refund on the tickets, or holding on to them for when the concert is rescheduled later in the year. Not sure I am going to hold on to them though, as they have already said that any makeup concerts will be with a guest vocalist, not Brian Johnson. Reading between the lines, I would say he is totally done, although I'm hoping the doctors will find a way to protect his hearing and allow him to continue performing.

@moffittjc Without Brian Johnson, there is no AC/DC. It's rather insulting for fans to tour without him. Already Malcolm Young retired. This reminds me of the whatever was left of the Who tours.

@JohnRoberts I agree with you. If Brian Johnson can't continue as the singer, the band needs to call it quits and retire. People will understand. I don't want to see a substitute singer. Brian Johnson is an original.

I love how the rock bands I loved so much in my younger days are now doing concerts again. Sad to see them grow old and not be able to perform. Maybe they should put him in a soundproof room so he could sing and not have to deal with the loud sounds of the concert hall.

@moffittjc he also will have to face the fact that he has damaged his hearing from years of performing in loud venues. Sometimes we have to give up what we enjoy doing for the sake of our health.

It would be nice if they could figure out some sort of way for him to continue performing. I know he's got to be bummed to have to stop singing and performing. Guys like that, it's their whole life. I just can't imagine those guys calling it quits and retiring and happily living out the rest of their lives. Rockers are born to rock, that's what makes them happy, and that's what keeps them going day after day.

I know! I've been looking forward to this concert for months. And to have the news break just four days before the show is so heartbreaking. I was really looking forward to sharing the experience with my daughter.

We go to plenty of concerts together, but it's usually country music. This would have been her first rock n roll concert. I guess I'll have to see what other rock bands are coming in tour soon and see if she wants to go to any of them. She would probably enjoy seeing Van Halen or Aerosmith, those might be some good ones to go to!

That's such a shame. I can't imagine that there is a cure for his condition. I would think they're hoping it won't get worse if he stops touring.

I agree. I think he's done for good. Well, lucky for you Aussies, the boys were able to complete their Australian and New Zealand leg of their world tour before his hearing loss became an issue!

@T_gray Yeah, she really likes Hunter Hayes a lot, and he is a good, clean kid with a positive message. If she's going to be infatuated with anyone, I'm glad it's a singer like him!

We'll have plenty of other opportunities to see concerts together! We've got one coming up on March 18th to see Hunter Hayes in Gainesville, and then again on May 6th to see Hunter Hayes in Orlando (HH is her favorite singer of all time).

I LOVE Brian Johnson as their singer, so don't get me wrong when I say that I liked Bon Scott much better as their singer. And not just Bon Scott as their singer, but the style of music they played back in the Bon Scott days. I just really love their old stuff!

At least I can say I've seen them multiple times before. Twelve times, in fact! This would have been lucky number 13! My friend in Atlanta is really bummed as well, because she had tickets to see them up there tomorrow night. It would have been her first time seeing them in concert.
