… visited me on my last day at the hospital. Last Monday and Tuesday were the preparation of the amphitheater at the third floor of the hospital for the summative evaluation, an event I so expected to be present but was not able to because I was confined. I had to inform once again my level coordinator that I cannot attend because I was due for discharge in the afternoon of March 10th. Then at 10AM, two came; Mr. AR, the male colleague who gave me a bottle of red wine last Christmas, and Ms. AGPR, a female colleague who is a pediatric nurse. They stayed with me for 30 minutes then left because Ms. AGPR was on duty still at the delivery room handling midwifery students. My son went out to surf the net with his phone, then I heard soft taps on the door. When I said “come in”, almost all level 3 students entered. They asked how I was, and I told them I will be home in that afternoon. We had some chit-chats about their activities, while some uttered they miss me. I reminded them what I told them when they were still in 2nd year. “Remember what I told you? I will let you graduate, just like the seniors now, and 2 more before them; I will be your CI until you graduate”. Suddenly, there was silence inside the room. Several of them got misty-eyed and a male student shed tears. I told them not to cry because I will be back as their CI next semester, “and prepare for the worse because I will be stricter”. They sobbed then they smiled; then they laughed. They stayed in the room for 45 minutes until one student said they must leave to give me time to rest. “Get well soon, Ma’am”, they all said. Before they left, we had a groupie (is this the plural of selfie?). That is one moment I will never forget in my entire life. How about you my friends, how are you appreciated by the people around you?

You need to live, for them at least. I'm sure they will make you proud one day. so,get well and don't make your students cry anymore

well, that was their prerogative if they cried, hijo. I would not want to be cried upon and over because I am definitely STILL alive, alert, awake, and enthusiastic.

@SIMPLYD that was what I heard at the Er upon my admission. With my eyes close but still fully conscious, I heard one nurse saying, "She was my CI in medical ward", and I am happy that he recognized me.

This is so wonderful that your students came to give you care and admiration and love. I know you must have been so touched with this display and lovely visit from them. How nice that they did this. I would be uplifted too. I have not had this experience that I recall friend in life. If anything, usually on my own to deal with whatever comes.

i was really touched my friend. I tried to hide my tears when there was silence and sobs, so I changed the mood into a more jovial one by saying, "Paga-graduate-in ko kayo", which means "I will let you graduate".

the appreciation I got from them shows that they do not consider me as a terror CI but one who helps and understands their dilemma as students and future nurses.

I am now fine, my friend. We were supposed to go out with me driving the car but my sister shrugged off the idea because she thought I am not yet out of the hospital for 1 week (just got out last Thursday) and I need more rest.

@fishtiger58 yes, and right now, she went to the hospital to do the things needed for my sickness benefits claim. She called up by land line phone the persons where she should get the forms, so I can apply next week, God willing.

Even how strict you are as their CI as what you've said to them, they still care, thought and love you. So take good care of your health friend because you still have more students to teach, more lotters to comment and stay healthy always.

thanks, but this picture was taken exactly a year ago during the grand case presentation of these 2nd year students, who are now 3rd year. as you can see, i am still up and about, and I was in uniform. I am home now, and I want to be in my normal working self again but my sister prohibits me.

whenever I recall that male student (he is from UK but studies here so he can work there who always helps me when I need a hand) wiping the tears in his eyes, I get misty too kabsat. he is a student who was an absentee when he was in 2nd year, and he did not even have a final grade then. he stopped for a year and now back as 3rd year. I know his abilities, and 'tumino sya sa akin'. that may be the reason why he cried.

wow, you are the "leader", my friend because you have the guts to leave; that is why when you left, others followed you as well. That is a concealed form of appreciation.
