I have a neighbor who is old, sick and stubborn.
He is an alcoholic for nearly half a century.
A few months ago, he was hospitalized for liver problem.
The doctor told him to quit drinking, or else he would die soon.
Do you know what he did after his discharge from the hospital?
He went to the coffee shop and ordered beer. He downed three bottles of beer.
He still drinks, despite the fact that his family, including his long-suffering daughter who has to pay for the medical bill, begs him to stop drinking.
He says that he will not stop drinking 6 cans of beer every day. He knows that he will drink himself to death, and he knows that his family is having a hard time paying for his medication and hospital bill, yet he still wants to drink.

There is no cure for the drinking ...it is only a miracle that would stop someone from drinking. It is bad as it kills the organs of the body due to excessive drinking.

@scheng1 Usually a drinker will not stop, bar God coming down to stop him.

I have to say that some people are just not responsible. Of course people can have their free will, however, sometimes we shall also think about others. Such as the case you mentioned. This old man is very irresponsible and he doesn't take good care of his own health. And it leads to a higher hospital burden for his family. And the problem is his family has to be responsible for him no matter what.

@scheng1 I agree with you. His family wants to get rid of him but sometimes they have to think about how others think about it. And a human being is not a rubbish that you can throw it easily. There is still connection and relation. The blood relationship makes the difference.

That is sad that his family has the burden of paying for his bills and he doesn't care. How sad they have to watch him die this way. My father in law drank a lot to and he had liver cancer. He went through surgery and chemo and he still drinks as well. I cannot understand being that way and risking your life. How sad for everyone else who will have to watch these people they love die.

That's addiction. It blinds a person's sane judgement and reasoning
