Taking Advantage of this Week's only Nice Day

Today in the Colorado Springs area we were in the sixties, even with the wind. The rest of the week, the temps will only be in the forties, with 31 and a 90% chance of precipitation on Thursday. So this morning, I took advantage of the warm day by taking my bike out for an early ride, before the wind really picked up. I only rode 11 miles, but I did see that some of the graffiti on the bike path has been dealt with. It was racist stuff, too. "White Power" was tagged there for a couple years before someone painted over it. The same guy (presumably) then sprayed the Nazi SS symbol on the path, which has now been painted over as well. (I have no idea what kind of statement the guy was making, since I've noticed that the majority of users are white. Maybe he's trying to recruit new members to his hateful cause. Or, he's trying to scare people who really don't use that particular bike path.) Either way, tagging sucks. I do, however, enjoy graffiti art. There is a graffiti art building further down the path. It's well done and quite pleasing to the eye. Above is a photo I took last summer, with my bike leaning against it. Remember, tagging is stupid and wrong, graffiti art is cool. Especially with my bike in the picture.

Pardon me asking but what actually is tagging? I know what graffiti is - or think I do but I don't understand tagging.

@teamfreak16 So what is graffiti if not the same thing? Or is street art the new graffiti?

@JudyEv -It's basically two different types of graffiti, one a true art form, one a kid with a can of spray paint and a need for defacing property.

Tagging is the graffiti you see that serves no purpose other than to claim territory or let everyone know you were there.

I agree - tagging is stupid/wrong/immature but graffiti art is another story. Love the photo you took and sounded like you had a nice ride minus the tagging!

Thanks. Whomever owns the building changes the art every few years.

There's a tattoo shop about a block from the bike path. The whole building is graffiti art. Don't know if it was the artists that did it, or they hired someone.

@teamfreak16 Interesting. I know of some places that allocated wall space for artists. Most are pretty rubbish, but some are great
